Roger D. Altman

ALTMAN Roger D. Altman, 63, of Fernandina Beach, Fl., passed away Sunday May 28, 2006 at his residence. A native of Georgetown, S.C., he was born August 31, 1942, the son of Melvin “Hoppy” Hopkins and the late Jane Hopkins. He grew up in Hortense, Ga. and graduated from Brantley County High School in 1958. He then enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving four years in Charleston, S.C. upon discharge in 1963, he went to work at Georgia Pacific in Brunswick, Ga. Mr. Altman moved here in 1979 and began the Altman Construction Co., following thirty successful years. He formed a landscape business under the name of Custom Landscapes. Mr. Altman was an avid “Dale Ernhardt” NASCAR fan and he also enjoyed fishing and in his spare time, attending various car shows. Surviving are his Wife, Donna Altman, his Son, David Altman of Fernandina Beach, his four Daughters, Karen (Timmy) Austin of Fernandina Beach, Tammy (Mike) Peeples of Nahunta, Georgia, Gina (Dan) Powell and Victoria Altman both of Fernandina Beach, his Father, Melvin “Hoppy” Hopkins of Hortense, Ga., his Brother, Frank Altman of Hortense, Ga., and Delbert Altman on Andrews, S.C., his Grandchildren, Nathan Hendrix, Alana Peeples, Jenee Solis, Jacob Powell and Leah Peeples, his Great-Grandchild, Emily Peeples, his In-laws, Wayne and Florence Burnsed of Fernandina Beach, Fl., and his Faithful Companions, Scooter Man and Mac Attack. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday (TODAY) at the Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, from the Springhill Baptist Church with Rev.
