Word has recently reached me of the homegoing of my friend and brother in ministry the Reverend S.M. Gatson. I'd like to offer to his beloved widow and the entire Gatson family my deepest condolences. May you take comfort in the Gospel he preached ; "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." He was indeed "stedfast, unmovable always abounding in the work of the Lord" His labor was not in vain.

Rev. Gatson baptized me when I was but 8 or 9 years old at the Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church of Palatka, FL. I was blessed to see him so many years later unfortunately at the funeral of a member and good friend, and he was still the gracious Pastor and gentleman that I had known. I truly have fond memories of eating at MaryAnn's Fried Chicken and of course hearing Rev. Gatson preach. I will cherish them, because Rev. Gatson was God sent. May God continue to bless his wife and family. He is gone but never forgotten

I have fond & warm memories of Rev. Gatson during his pastorship in Palatka at Mt. Tabor 1st Baptist Church. He was a Giant of Theology and a compasionate man who spoke the truth. I will always remember him for his powerful sermons. May God be with his family is our Prayer.

To the family of Rev. Gatson
It saddened my heart to learn of the demise of my friend, Rev. Gatson. After years of friendship and as a fellow servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, I leave you with these words: 'earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal'. Remember Sam as the loved one who really cared for his family and friends. My prayers are with each of you.

HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST
God saw you getting tired
and as a cure was not to be,
so HE put His Arms Around you,
and whispered "Come to Me."
With tearful eyes we watched
you,and saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
we could not make you stay,
A golden heart stopped beating,
hard working hands at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to
us He only takes the best

I am sorry for your loss. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. We don't always understand God's plan for our lives, but know that he loves you. Jeremiah 31:13 “…I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.” God bless.

Dear Family,
If Sam Gatson was a delivery man for Genuine Parts in 1966-67, I worked in a store with him. I was just 20-21 at the time that all of us were adjusting to the Civil Rights Movement. No problem with Sam as a co-worker, he was a good humble fellow. Forty years have passed since and I believe Sam must have made many friends in his life. God bless you and Sam....TIM COWAN

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, ""I welcome you.""
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......""My day was not in vain.""
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
