CYNTHIA SHUTTER-LaVANCHER Obituary

Cynthia (Cranmer/ Franks) Shutter-LaVancher passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Bradford Hills Nursing Center in Troy. She was born September 1, 1946, to Mary Heilman and Darwin "Barney" Cranmer in Tioga. She was later adopted by Robert LaMonte Franks. Cindy married Hugh Roger Shutter on April 18, 1964, and gave birth to her daughter, Rhonda Sue Shutter on March 7, 1965.
Cindy owned the Academy of Dance in Vineland, New Jersey for 20+ years, retiring in 2010. Having had a difficult childhood herself, she tried her best to encourage all children to meet their full potential. Cindy filled her time with hobbies like cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting and especially baking, as many who have loved her pound cake can attest to! Cindy loved music, she and her best friends (Joyce, Cissy, MaryAnn and her sister Jeanne) would often go to concerts to see Tom Jones or Tony Orlando and her biggest regret was never seeing Elvis Live. Cynthia was a loving Christian and dedicated member of Vineland United Methodist Church, Tioga Southern Baptist Church, St. Andrews Episcopal Church, and enjoyed attending her son-in-law's services regularly.
After her divorce in 2012, she moved back to her hometown of Tioga, where she worked briefly for MVR and B&L. Cindy married the love of her life, John LaVancher, September 17, 2016, in a beautiful ceremony at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Tioga with all her family and friends present. Rhonda will always be eternally grateful for the love John shared with Cindy in her final years. The last months of Cindy's life were spent as a resident of Bradford Hills, where she made several close friends who she would walk with endlessly.
Cindy was one of 18 children, including all of her half and stepsiblings. She made an effort to meet them all and keep in touch through the years as her family was very important to her.
Cindy was predeceased by her brother, Doug (Sharon) Franks, and her sisters, Kathleen (Dorr) Keeney, Cleone (Kelsey) Carlton, and Jeanne (John) Howe.
She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Shutter and her son-in-law, Michael Denelsbeck; as well as her grandchildren, Tiara, Deanna, Tony, Sydney, and Bailey, her sister, Beth (Tim) Good, and many nieces and nephews.
Cindy loved Shutter Homestead and will have her ashes spread there.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
