GLADYS F. MARTIN

1919 - 2012

Gladys F. Martin, 93, of Galeton, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at the Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport.
Born May 29, 1919, in Olean, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Claude E. and Nina C. (Tuttle) Fisher.
On June 6, 1942, in Knoxville, she married the late William J. Martin, who preceded her in death in 1993.
Gladys and Bill, along with his brother, Bob, and sister-in-law, Inez, co-owned Martin's General Store in Galeton from 1946 to 1983.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galeton and enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling and attending many Penn State football games with her husband.
Surviving are daughters, Janice A. (William) Pinney, Galeton; Marilyn M. Starry, York, Pa.; Nancy L. (Roger) Hurt, Coudersport; six grandchildren, Leigh (Trent) Brooks, Lynne (Thomas) Hurd, Chad (Amy) Bender, Jennifer (Arthur) Smith, Benjamin Boscia and Theodore (Amy) Boscia; six step-grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was predeceased by two brothers and a son-in-law, Dean Starry.
Friends called at the Hess Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Collins Chapel, Galeton, on Friday, Sept. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services were held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galeton on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Karl W. O. Runser, III officiated.
Burial was in West Hill Cemetery, Galeton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the Galeton Public Library, or the Galeton Little League Association.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Hess Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Galeton.
