Bertha Hoherchak Obituary

Bertha Margaret Hoherchak

Bertha Margaret Hoherchak passed away peacefully on Sept. 5, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.

A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Bertha touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

She was born on Aug. 7, 1947, in Jim Thorpe, to the late John "Jack" and Anna Kattner.

Bertha's family was the heart of her world. She was a loving mother to Heather Hoherchak and her partner, Tim Griffaton, of Horsham, and Jason Hoherchak, and his wife, Amy, of Barnesville. Her five grandchildren, Creed, Madison, Hannah, Kyle and Riley, were the light of her life, and she fondly called them her "Little Shits." Her great-granddaughter, Eleanor Grace, was the most recent addition to her fan club, and could always make Grammy's eyes light up, no matter what.

She is also survived by her siblings: Rose Billman, Ann Ahner, John Kattner, George Kattner, Edward Kattner and Liz Kilcup. She was deeply loved by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Bertha was known for her loving nature, infectious sense of humor, and the joy she took in family traditions. Some of her favorite things included anything purple, playing Uno or Yahtzee with her family, and celebrating holidays where she could cook, laugh and create memories. She had a special love for making cherry cheese pies, often baked black bean pie with her daughter, Heather, and spent many hours canning tomatoes and making scrapple with her son, Jason. You could find her listening to her favorite music, or watching any western movie she could get her hands on.

"Bersa" spent many years caring for children in her home and she was like a second mom to them, baking them special treats like her famous "me-asses" (molasses) cake. She also worked as a housekeeper at Split Rock Resort, where she formed close bonds with colleagues and guests alike. Her nurturing spirit and strong work ethic will be remembered by all who were lucky enough to know her.

Service: A celebration of Bertha's life will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 526 North St., Jim Thorpe, on Sept. 11, 2025, with a calling hour at 10 a.m., followed by Mass at 11 o'clock. The Melber Funeral Home, Jim Thorpe, is in charge of the arrangements. lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Though she has passed, Bertha's love, laughter and the beautiful memories she created will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

Rest in peace, Grammy. Let perpetual light shine on your beautiful soul.
