Daniel Laughlin Obituary

Daniel W. Laughlin

Daniel W. Laughlin, 74, of Franklin Township, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in the St. Luke's Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township. He was the husband of Gina Musante. They celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary on June 23 of last year.

Born in Ashland, he was a son of the late James and Irene (Nagy) Laughlin.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served as a radioman for 20 years.

He was also employed as a lift operator for Blue Mountain Ski Resort and a maintenance worker for Mauch Chunk Lake.

He was a 1969 graduate of Shamokin High School.

He enjoyed everything to do with the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, golfing and cutting grass on the zero-turn mower at the lake. Dan also enjoyed his family trips to Atlantic City and claimed he'd "come in second place" in his three Ernest Hemingway look-alike contests in Key West, Fla.

Surviving in addition to his widow are daughters, Mandie, wife of Peter VonAchen, and Brandi Melis, both of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister, Diane, wife of Albert Bressi of Marion Heights; a brother, David Wanzie, and his wife, Brenda, of Nescopeck; grandchildren, Matthew VonAchen, Jonathan VonAchen and Tyler Melis; a great-granddaughter, Elena; a niece, Danelle Bressi-Scott; a nephew, Stephen Bressi; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by twin daughters, Stacey Lynn and Emily Elizabeth Laughlin.

Service: Private military interment at convenience of family, Franklin Heights Cemetery, Franklin Twp. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 5, Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home, 190 S. Fourth St., Lehighton, which has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. Online condolence can be offered at www.ovsakfh.com.

Daniel, you failed to make your battle stations during general quarters. You are now relieved from your watch. A job well done fellow navy veteran. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. The carrier has turned into the wind preparing for your final departure. The final volley has sounded and taps is about to sound ending a successful career as a nation“s defender. Smooth sailing shipmate.
