David C. "Topper" Binder
David C. "Topper" Binder, 75, of East Penn Township, passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, at his residence.
He was the husband of Alice M. Ahner Binder. They were married for nine years on July 12 of this year. His first wife, Bobby Jean Binder, preceded him in death.
Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late David F. & Dorothea (Herlin) Binder. He served our country with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
David was previously employed as a truck driver for Makovsky Trucking in Egypt and later drove truck for Ciccone Asphalt in Bath, both in Pennsylvania. In his spare time, he worked as a carpenter and most recently was employed at the Times News as a delivery person.
He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mahoning Valley, a life member of Lehigh Fire Co. #1, Lehighton, and held a membership at the Lehighton American Legion Post #314. "Topper" loved watching #48, Jimmy Johnson drive the Lowe's Chevy on the NASCAR circuit.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, is a daughter, Terrie Farenkopf of Lansford; a son, Robert Binder of Oklahoma; four stepchildren, Danielle Robinson of Bowmanstown, Samantha Ahner of Bethlehem, John Ockenhouse Jr. of Lansford, Natasha Ockenhouse of Nebraska; three sisters, a twin, Dorothea, wife of Wayne Ditmar, of Slatington, Mary Coombe of Mahoning Township, and Sandra Binder of Tennessee, two grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, John Binder.
Service: A graveside Celebration Of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at the Gnaden Huetten Cemetery, Fourth & Union St., Lehighton, with the Rev. Christopher DeForest officiating, followed by full military honors under the direction of the Lehighton Area UVO.
