David A. Heintzelman
David A. Heintzelman, 86, of Mahoning Valley, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, in his residence. He was the husband of Joan E. (Haberman) Heintzelman. They were married for 63 years on Nov. 26.
A but-
cher by trade, he was the for-mer ow-ner/op-erator of the century-old Heintzel-
man's Meat Market, Mahoning Valley, until its sale in 1994. David's family started the business in 1906.
Born in the Mahoning Valley, he was a son of the late Norton and Laura (Wehr) Heintzelman.
He served our country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, having attained the rank of Specialist 3rd Class.
Heintzelman was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mahoning Valley, and a life member of the Beaver Run Rod & Gun Club and the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company.
A member of other various clubs, he was a great contributor to the community of Lehighton and the surrounding areas.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing as his hobby.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter, Attorney Holly A. Heintzelman of Lehighton; two sons, Matthew D., and his wife, Amanda Jane, of Berwyn, and Scott D. of Lehighton; three brothers, Quinton of Indianapolis, Ind., Franklin, and his wife, Betty, of Anderson, S.C., and Kermit, and his wife, Elaine, of Garner, N.C.; a granddaughter, Laura Jane Heintzelman; and nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by a brother, Luther.
Service: Funeral service 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 826 Mahoning Drive West, Lehighton, with the Rev. Christopher Deforest officiating. Interment, private. Call 9:30-10 a.m. Friday in the church. Arrangements by Ovsak Funeral Home, 190 S. Fourth St., Lehighton. Contributions in his name may be made to the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary, 12165 Highland Rd., Hot Springs, SD 57747, or to a charity of your choice. Uncle David was always larger than life to me growing up. He was a very kind man whom I never heard raise his voice to anyone. His smile never changed over the years. I know Heaven gained a Saint this day. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. To my family, you are in my prayers. I love you all
