Jean M. (Haydt) Gower, 74, of Kunkletown passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2022, at St. Luke's Hospital Main Campus in Bethlehem.
Jean was born in Palmerton on her mother's birthday, Sept. 12, 1947, to the late Ervin and Marian (Strohl) Haydt-George.
She was a 1965 graduate of Palmerton High School.
Jean was the wife of Jeffrey L. Gower for 53 years. They were wed on April 6, 1968.
Jean worked as a pharmacy technician for 20 years at Sandt's Pharmacy in Brodheadsville. Prior to that she worked as a sewing machine operator for Scotty's Fashions in Kresgeville and Deeville Blouse Factory in Kunkletown.
She was a member of St. Matthew's UCC in Kunkletown. Jean was a layperson for their women's auxiliary. She also volunteered at the Polk Elementary School and at the West End Food Pantry, Kunkletown. She was part of the Palmerton Red Hat Society.
Jean enjoyed playing "Haas" with the card club and "Bunco" with the Bunco ladies.
Some of Jean's fond memories include teenage dances and roller skating, adult hobbies included reading, flower gardening, attending local fairs, carnivals, festivals and listening to all types of music. The best memories of all were spending time with her grandchildren.
Survived by husband, Jeff; daughter, Kelly Shepherd, and husband Harry III "Toggle", of Perkasie; grandchildren, Kelsey (Gower) Simmons, Courtney and Katie Gower, Lydia, Naomi and Tobias "Toby" Shepherd; a sister, Betty (Haydt) Eckhart, and her husband Sterling, of Palmerton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jean was preceded in death by a son, Corey Lee Gower on Oct. 16, 2007, at the age of 38; her brothers, Harold, Luther, Stanley and Delbert Haydt; and a sister: Violet (Haydt) George.
Services: private and at the convenience of the family.
