Jeffrey Sharp Obituary
Jeffrey Austin Sharp, 23, died on the morning of June 27, 2021, at his home in Lehighton.
Jeffrey was a good soul and had a heart for those down on their luck. He was quirky, quick-witted, smart, creative and talented.
Music was an important part of his life. He was a gifted musician, playing guitar, bass, drums and keyboard. He also wrote lyrics and had an innate ability to uncover the layers of sound of virtually any piece of music.
Jeff graduated in 2016 from Lehighton Area High School where he played drums in the Lehighton High School Marching Band. He also played drums in his church youth group, and after high school, he tried his hand at performing in several bands and even strummed his guitar on the sidewalks of Jim Thorpe entertaining tourists.
He attended a few semesters at LCCC, but his interests were too diverse for him to commit to any particular path. He spoke of returning to school and moving to Nashville, but those things never came to be.
Each day, 144 people die of drug overdoses and, sadly, Jeffrey was one of those people. Even with the help of fine therapists, medical doctors, alternative therapies, concerned friends, and a supportive, loving and patient family, his depression, bi-polar illness and ADD proved to be his mortal enemies and peace eluded him.
His family's and friends' solace lies in the fact that Jesus came for the broken and Jeff is now with Jesus, no longer broken, but finally at peace.
Jeff is survived by his heartbroken parents, Dr. Kenneth and Theresa Sharp; two younger brothers, Robert and Daniel; grandparents, Bill and Jean Marshall and Ann DiIanni, and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Service: A celebration of Jeff's life will be held on Saturday, July 17, at Bethany Wesleyan Church, 1122 Fairyland Road, Lehighton, with visitation from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and a service and fellowship directly following.
For anyone interested, donations can be made in Jeffrey's name to the Lehighton High School Marching Band or the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

As a recovering addict I cannot express all my thoughts. I do want to say that your honesty within this obituary is a beautiful thing and rarely seen.
But it NEEDS to be seen!
So many sugar coat the outcome of mental illness and addiction and breeze over it and would have just said "died in his home."
I am eternally thankful that you did NOT.
