Joan Kennedy Obituary

Mrs. Joan Ann
Kennedy
Mrs. Joan Ann Kennedy, 58, of Summit Hill, passed away in her home on Friday, Oct. 9, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Lehighton, she was a daughter of the late Glenn Blaise Snyder and Joan Marie (Schneider) Snyder.
She was preceded in death by both her parents and her brother, Lawrence Paul Snyder.
She was married to John J. Kennedy Sr.
They have two children, Laura Ann Kennedy of Hometown and John J. Kennedy Jr. of Summit Hill.
Joan was a graduate of Marian Catholic High School and received her bachelor's in special and elementary education at Marywood University, Scranton.
Joan was a lifetime member of The ARC, and her first teaching position was at Overbrook School for the Blind in Philadelphia. Joanie then worked for the Carbon County Intermediate Unit 21 until she was hired by the Panther Valley School District as a special education teacher, from where she retired.
She made a positive and lasting impact on a countless number of students throughout her years as a teacher.
Joanie was involved with 4-H as a youngster and had been a 4-H volunteer and a leader for over 20 years. She was a member of the Summit Hill Legion Auxiliary and an active member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR). Joan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, where she helped work in the church kitchen and at the blooming onion stand at the annual church festival.
Joan was a big fan of music and theatre, and she loved to take day trips to New York City to explore the city and see Broadway plays. She enjoyed camping with her family and loved to travel and cruise.
Joan was more prepared than the best of Boy Scouts for anything that would come up on her adventures. She always seemed to have anything with her that someone asked for in that seemingly magical purse of hers. She is forever in the hearts of all who have known her.

So young to leave this world, but your family has called you home. Dad, Mom, and brother all needed you. So you leave behind a husband and children who will carry on your traits and legacy. No more pain, no more sorrow. The ones you leave behind will always cherish your love and memories till you all meet again. The sorrow and grief is now, but the memories will last a lifetime. Rest now dear Joanie, you were loved.

I just met Joan a few months ago at our local book club. I enjoyed our evenings we shared with the others there. She always made it a special night with her
wonderful desserts. Laura, my thoughts are with you and your family.

Time and distance may separate us from wonderful people during our lifetime, but not the impact they had on our lives. My condolences to Joan's family at this difficult time as well as my sincerest gratitude for the amazing assistance she always offered and gave freely.
