Lillian Popek Obituary

Lillian S. Popek

God called our mother, Lillian S. (Arees) Popek, 98, to heaven on Nov. 12, 2023.

She was a resident of Mahoning Valley Nursing & Convalescent Home, Mahoning Township, and a longtime former resident of 714 Center St., Jim Thorpe.

Lillian will join her husband of 54 years, Theodore S. "Ted" Popek Sr., who passed in 2000.

They owned and operated the former Colonial Express Trucking Co. and Kathy Ann Sportswear of Jim Thorpe.

Together, they raised five children, Mary Katherine, wife of the late Charles J. McHugh Jr., Theodore S. Popek Jr., husband of Cheryl (Smith), Cyrilla Ann, wife of the late John Gavornik Jr., Timothy A., husband of Mary (Mann), and Terrance F., husband of Theresa (Dedinsky).

She so enjoyed her eight grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Hill, Kathy Ann Goldberg, John Gavornik III, Nicole Burke, Ray Hassek, Stephanie Colaberardino, Danielle Popek and Joshua Popek; and her 16 great-grandchildren who always made her smile, Lauren, Alexis and Ashley Hill, Faith and Sawyer Christman, Maggie and Colin Burke, Nicholas, Noah, Benjamin and Roman Goldberg, Alysha and John Gavornik IV and Natalia, Michael and Mathew Colaberardino.

Lillian was a loving mother who especially enjoyed being with her family on all the holidays. It made her so happy to have Christmas dinner and for the whole family go to Christmas Eve Mass.

She was a volunteer at the Red Cross Bloodmobile for many years.

She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

Mass of the Christian Burial 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 526 North St., Jim Thorpe, with the Rev. Ronald Minner officiating. Interment, parish cemetery, Jim Thorpe.
