Sister M. Irene, MSC, (Margaret Turek), 92, a Missionary Sister of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, died on Saturday, Dec. 2, in the Sacred Heart Villa, Reading.
Born in Palmerton, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna (Kohut) Turek.
She made her First Profession of vows on Aug. 19, 1948.
Sister taught in various schools in the Diocese of Allentown, including St. John the Baptist, Allentown; SS. Cyril and Methodius, Coaldale; St. Peter, Coplay; Our Lady of Hungary, Northampton; Holy Family, Nazareth; Sacred Heart, Palmerton; and St. Michael, Lansford. She also taught in Palos Heights, IL.
After retiring from teaching, she spent several years as a receptionist in admissions at Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown, and in service within her religious community.
In 1998, she retired to Sacred Heart Villa. From 2015-17, she was a resident at Manor Care, Laureldale.
In addition to the members of her religious community she is survived by a sister, Dorothy Beck of Battle Creek, MI; and her family.
Sister was also predeceased by a sister Irene, (Sister M. Margaret Turek), who was also a Missionary Sister of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Service: Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, chapel of Sacred Heart Villa, 51 Seminary Ave., Reading, followed by interment in the convent cemetery. Call 4-7 o'clock tonight in the chapel. Prayer service 7 o'clock tonight.
