Richard C. Gehring

Richard C. Gehring, 80, of Stroudsburg, passed away on Friday, Aug. 23, 2024, quietly in his home surrounded by the love and support of his family.

Born and raised in Jim Thorpe, he was the son of the late Herman R. and Verna (Ferrance) Gehring.

Richard lived in Stroudsburg for over 60 years and worked in printing at Pocono Press, Cresco, for 19 years.

After retirement, he actively enjoyed biking, tennis, scuba diving and skiing.

He became a ski instructor at Camelback and Shawnee Ski areas and was a member of the Pocono Ski Club.

Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Gehring (husband Geoffrey); a son, Brett Gehring (partner Anne); former wife and mother of his children, Carole Gehring; a sister, Jane (Gehring) Halenar; a daughter-in-law, Misty Helton Gehring; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Richard H. Gehring, 2017; and brother, Herman W. Gehring, 1976.

Service: Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 3-5 p.m. at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main St., Stroudsburg, with a service to be held at 4:30 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Elizabeth Koerner. A private burial will take place at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery, Jim Thorpe. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to the Quiet Valley Historical Soc. Richard was an active member, enjoying the activities reminiscent of his own family's farm in Jim Thorpe.
