Richard Rehr Obituary

Richard D. Rehr

Richard "Richie" D. Rehr, 82, of Lehighton, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 15, 1940, in Lehighton, he was a son of the late Esther (Strohl) and Albert D. Rehr.

Richie worked as a mechanic for PennDOT until he retired in 1996.

He had a true love for antique cars; whether that be rebuilding them from scratch or driving them around town. He would always lend a helping hand to someone in need; he could fix anything. A few of his many enjoyments were going to the Leesport Flea Market, eating a meal at the Bowmanstown Diner, and spending time with his close friends. Richie also had a love for animals; he will be missed by his beloved cats, Big Guy, Blackbeard, Pudder, and PussyCat.

One thing that Richie taught everyone that knew and loved him was that everything holds value, even if no one else can see it but you.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Tammy and her husband, Frank Mertz; granddaughter, Klarissa R. Mertz; nephew, Joey Blisko; and many close friends.

In addition to his parents, Richie is preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Rehr and sister, Mildred Blisko.

Services: A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, March 3, from 10-11 a.m. at Schaeffer Funeral Home, 300 Alum St., Lehighton, PA 18235 with a memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Gnaden Huetten Cemetery. Sort of the "Big Daddy" of the shade tree mechanics of Jim Thorpe, very likable guy....He was a Ford guy true and blue.

Richie was one of my Dad (James "slumps" McGinley's )best buddies. He also was a partner in adventures with my cousin , Joe "Dirt". They shared so many good times. My dad would always smile when he said he was going to Rehr's. My thoughts are with you . Thanks for sharing him with my family. Claire McGinley
