Barbara Durfey Obituary

DURFEY

Barbara Ann (Gray) "Barb"

Barbara Ann Durfey, age 78, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center while in the care of Heartland Hospice.

Barb was born August 19, 1937, to Clark and Coral Gray (Crozier) in Liberty Center, OH. The family later moved to Toledo's north end, where she attended Lagrange Elementary School and Woodward High School, graduating in 1955.

In 1965, Barb married Donald G. Durfey and the two had one son, Robert C. They moved to Bedford Township where family ties and many friendships were forever forged.

A very hard worker her entire life, Barb was employed over the years at various companies in Toledo including AP Parts, Questor Corp, Doehler-Jarvis and finally, OmniSource Recycling, where she was employed for the last 18 years.

Always a woman of great faith, Barb was born again in 1987, first worshipping at the Temperance Free Methodist Church, followed by helping to establish a new church in Toledo, The Church upon the Rock. She later attended Harvest Christian Assembly in Temperance, MI.

Barb was a woman of character, kindness and loyalty. She whole-heartedly supported her loved ones in all endeavors and will be greatly missed by her family, friends and coworkers.

As Barb was a very giving woman, she supported many charities including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, American Children's Cancer Society, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Committee for Missing Children, and various disabled veteran groups. As were her wishes, her remains were donated to the University of Toledo Medical Center for scientific study.

Barb is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Courtney; granddaughters, Alexandra and Regan; brother, Fred Durfey; sister, Sue Durfey; nieces, Sandi and Debi Durfey, and Barbara Featherston (Melcer); nephew, David Durfey; great-nieces, Grace Durfey and Lauren Featherston; greatnephew, Cason Featherston, and several other cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clark and Coral Gray; ex-husband, Don Durfey; sister and brother-in-law, Don and Sharon Melcer (Gray), and nephew, David Melcer.

A memorial service and luncheon to honor Barb's life will be held at Lucarelli's Hall, 4526 Monroe St., Toledo, OH on Sunday, October 11, 2015, at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable donation to Heartland Hospice or one of the aforementioned organizations Barb supported.
