Benjamin ROWE Obituary

ROWE Benjamin D. The world lost a great man on July 29, 2010, with the passing of Benjamin D. Rowe. Ben died at age 75 in the Toledo Hospital from complications of a cardiac arrest he suffered two weeks ago. He was born in Toledo, OH, to Ben and Florence Rowe and they, along with his only brother, Richard, preceded him in death. Ben was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School and Bowling Green State University where he was a proud member and treasurer of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was also very active in the ROTC. Ben retired from Baer Supply in 2009 after 16 years. Prior to that, he was vice-president of Best Hardware. Ben served for two years with the US Army and 29 years with the Ohio National Guard. He held many command positions including Commander of the 137th MP Battalion in Toledo and Deputy Brigade Commander in the 416th Engineer Group. He was also on the senior staff of the Ohio Emergency Operations Headquarters in Columbus, OH. Ben's favorite pastime was spending time at Devil's Lake with his family. Left to cherish Ben's memory is his wife of 53 years, Joan (Hiser) Rowe and children, Debbie (Paul) Symington, Kim (Dave) Comers, Ben (Cindy) Rowe and Steve (Michelle) Rowe. He was the proud grand father to Kyle, Trisha, Clay, Ben, Britton, Landon and Tessa. He also leaves a special sister-in-law, Marge Rowe, her daughters, Sue Rowe, Terri Rowe, Katie Pickens, Linda (Wayne) Harris, Dianne (Shawn) Osborn, Richelle (Ryan) Smith and their much beloved families. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) and on Monday from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am at Epworth United Methodist Church, 3077 Valleyview Dr. Toledo, OH 43615. The Rev. Robert Thomas will be officiating. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Pastor Bob for his care and concern for Ben and his family during this difficult time. Not sure what to say?

Dear Rowe Family,

We were so sorry to just recently hear about Ben's passing from a salesman that came into our shop. Ben was our Baer Supply salesperson for many, many years. Whenever he came into our shop, he was always happy, smiling, joking...totally upbeat about life. His job wasn't work...it was enjoyment for him. We missed him after he retired.
Our deepest condolences to your entire family.

Dear Rowe Family,
I am so sad to hear of Ben's passing I know Ben through our business,Ben was our salesman. but Ben was what salesmen used to be, he didn't need a computer, he knew his products he knew what you used and best of all Ben knew me personally and I would call a friend. I am not surprised by the many personal reflections in this guestbook and how people loved Ben.

Dear Rowe Family,
There are people who touch our lives in very special ways and Ben was one of those people. I had the pleasure of working with him at Baer Supply and I do mean a pleasure. Ben was a kind hearted and friendly gentleman whom I will never forget. Our loss is heavens' gain.

Dearest Joan and family:
Altho we are saddened to learn of Ben's death - his trip to his "heavenly home" is one we aspire to and until that time, we will miss him. His legacy is great - carry it on. May the comfort that comes from knowing he is now in no pain and "looking down on all of you" - be a source of peace. So sorry we cannot be there at this time - BUT know our prayers will be for your "caring unit" to carry on to the next chapter of the Benjamin D. Rowe family.

Forever friends,

Tracy (Ross) Mueller

God Bless you "Uncle Ben". I feel so honored to have had you as a role model as a child. Your strong, hearty voice, your caring eyes, your smile, your laugh and your big hugs--always meant so much. I saw first hand the amazing role you assumed in the lives of your six wonderful nieces... unconditionally, of which, their father would be so grateful. You've left your "mark" on so many lives and I'm very proud to say mine is one of them. May you find great peace and comfort from all of the angels you have around you now.

When his brother died at 46 years old, he left behind 6 daughters, 22 down to 9. Uncle Ben didn't have to watch over us, but he did, because that was the kind of man he was. We will forever be grateful for that. Aunt Joan, Deb, Kim, Ben, Steve and families, know that we are all here for you, no matter what you need, as our Dad and your Dad showed us the meaning of family. Thank you Uncle Ben for all of those years you gave us at the lake, we all have some wonderful memories there, along with Christmas Eve's. The world will not be the same without your smile, your laughter, Thanksgiving gravy, and most of all your big hugs. I know you didn't play cards like the rest of your family, but hopefully you will have some fun up in heaven with your parents, our Dad, and all of the others that went before you. We love you, and thank you.

His hugs, smile, laughter, and gift of love is like non-other. I know that God has a special place for him in Heaven! We will be keeping all of his family in our prayers. Cousin Ben was a very good man who will live on in my heart with many warm memories of him.I know in my heart and with my belief in 'God' that Ben is now in the loving protection and care for eternity with our loving God. I have no doubts that his mom who is my Aunt(Mac)and her twin sister (Pat)who is my mom, their sister, who is my Aunt Betty, and their brother, who is my Uncle Bill, and Bens dad who is my Uncle Tenny and his brother Lefty and my brother Norman and my brother Joey are there with Ben surrounding him and sharing with him in the great glory and beauty and peace and protection of our wonderful God.

Dear God please be with Ben's wife Joan and all his children and grandchildren and cousins and all his relatives and friends who have loved him so dearly and let our hearts be comforted with your presence and peace.

My husband Tom and I love you Ben.

Love, your cousin Mary Jane

Dear Joan and Family, I can't express how very much I feel for all of you. I remember the time Dick and I and Jenny and Mark went to your cottage. Brenda and Ben and Steve were not born yet. We had a marvelous time watching our kids play in the lake. You, Joan and Ben have been such great friends. Please call me, Joan whenever you need a friend. I'll cry with you. Love Kathy G.

Dear Deb & Kim and family members of Ben. I am so sorry to hear of your fathers passing. I know how hard this time will be for you and your mother. As you know the Lord will hold all things together for you as you deal with the things needed to be done and the upcoming hard times you will experience. Keep looking up and embrace the love of others to help see you through. I'm sorry I am not able to come (too soon) but I will be praying for you. Sue Thomas

To the great giant that gave everything to everyone. Uncle Ben only asked for on thing in return. His wish is for a family to love each other and care about each other. He is our warrior, mentor, and friend. There is no greater man that has lived. He now lives on in each of us. I have been blessed by his influnce in my life and his powerful example of love. I am forever humbled by his great gift of loving service to his fellow kind. The emptiness will be vast but the promise of the future is great in the fact that we have the opportunity to live as he has. Thank you
