Betty Lagger Obituary

Betty Lagger

January 21, 1926 - August 13, 2025

Betty Lagger, our feisty, fun and beautiful mom passed away August 13, 2025, in Ebeid Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born in Toledo, to Carl and Marie Bishop, on January 21, 1926. Married to her WWII pen pal, Eddie Lagger, for 54 years; they raised 5 children, Larry (Kathy), LouAnn Buck (Tom), Mary Steitz (Bill), Jim (Theresa) and Jan Lehman (Jay). Family get-togethers delighted her, especially when any of her 82 descendants were present!

Betty brightened the lives of others wherever she went: Good Shepard parish in the 1920s & 1930s; Central Catholic High School, Class of 1943; the Toledo Blade in the 1940s; St. Agnes Church Rosary Altar Society in the 1950s and 1960s; the Lucas County Board of Elections in the 1970s and 1980s; the Gulf Stream Motor Home Club and Recreation Plantation in the 1990s and 2000s; Christ the King Church funeral committee in the 2010s ("please sing loudly!"); and the Sylvania Senior Center follies.

At almost 100 years old Betty beat the odds as she often told us that as a child, she was hit by a car 3 different times!

Betty's Life Celebration will be Sunday, August 17, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., in Urbanski Funeral Home, a Life Celebration Home, 5055 Secor Rd, Toledo, Ohio. Visitation will continue Monday, August 18, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., in Christ the King Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, Ohio, where the Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.

Special thanks to all of the caregivers who helped Betty over the last few years.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Central Catholic High School or Toledo Christ the King Church.

Sounds like a great life! Just read her obit because I recognized the last name, but did not know her. Hope you celebrate her life like she would have!

Dear Lagger cousins,
Our prayers are with you. Your mom lived joyfully every day and brought joy to everyone her life touched. Although we are sad here, I am sure heaven is a happier place today with Aunt Betty in it! All our love,
Tim and Sue Bishop
