Brandon Lyons Obituary

Brandon John Lyons

Brandon John Lyons, 38, of Wauseon Ohio, passed away peacefully March 6th, 2024 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital surrounded by family after a 13 month battle with brain cancer. Brandon was also known as "BJ", "Beej", and "B", but his favorite was "Daddy". Brandon was born September 22, 1985 in Sylvania, Ohio to Sue (Robideau) Lyons and John Lyons. He graduated in 2003 from Central Catholic High School, where he was a member of the Fighting Irish Marching Band perfecting the sousaphone. Just before his 18th birthday, Brandon achieved the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America, Eagle Scout. His scout spirit, service, and leadership continued into many careers in Brandon's life.

He studied Fire Science at Owens Community College while working at the YMCA as a lifeguard, Toledo Hospital as a Patient Transporter, and Sylvania Township Fire Department as a part time firefighter. As his passion grew for being a first responder, he became an EMS dispatcher for Mobile Care Group, which then grew into an EMT position, and then in 2012, he graduated from Four County Career Center and earned his National Paramedic License. He remained a Paramedic, most recently for ProMedica Air & Mobile until his diagnosis in January 2023. He was a mentor to everyone, in and out of uniform. His selflessness made him a strong leader and a caring co-worker.

Brandon met Kelsey in 2005 while attending the weekly karaoke night at their local Gino's Pizza. Their love for singing continued weekly and their friendship blossomed over the years, even seeing each other between classes on the Owens campus. They started dating in November 2007 and Brandon proposed to Kelsey on June 10th, 2010 in Central Park in New York City. They married on June 23rd, 2012 in Toledo, Ohio.

After five years of struggling with infertility, their daughter, Emma, was finally born and their family was complete. He LOVED being a dad. His favorite moments were snuggling with Emma on the couch after her bath time and singing her songs at bedtime.

Brandon devoted his life to helping others. His family, kindness, and love is his legacy.

Brandon is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Kelsey; daughter, Emma; his parents, Sue Lyons (Dale Jakubowski), and John (Mary) Lyons; sister, Jessica (Phil) Savitt; brother and best friend, Jacob (Sarah) Lyons; father-in-law, Greg Gettum; bonus mother-in-law, Susan Gettum; brothers-in-law, Nick Marzec and Phillip (Kimberly) Gettum; sister-in-law, Julia (Brian) Bolander; nephew, Case Lyons; nieces, Dakota Lyons, Brynn and Harper Bolander, and Eleanor Gettum; and favorite cousin, Brigitte Green, among so many more cousins (in the US and Canada); and close friends.

Visitation will be Friday, March 15th, 2024, from 2-7 p.m. in Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. The Funeral Service will take place in the funeral home on Saturday, March 16th at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Gregory Peatee presiding.

In lieu of flowers, the family has created a special fund for monetary donations for Kelsey and Emma at Parish Federal Credit Union, 5138 North Summit Street, Toledo, OH 43611.

The family would like to express their utmost gratitude to the entire staff at ProMedica Toledo Hospital, ProMedica Flower Hospital & Rehab, and the Hickman Cancer Center, and all of his coworkers at ProMedica Air and Mobile for all of their loving and supportive care. Condolences can be shared at
