Bruce Bayer Obituary
Bruce Mathias Bayer of Boca Raton, FL passed away in his home on August 2. Bruce was born in Toledo, Ohio on August 12, 1924. He served as a signalman in the US Coast Guard and was present at the battle of Omaha Beach. Upon discharge he was decorated with a bronze star and was awarded the Medal of the Jubilee of Liberty in 2001.
He was employed as an engineer with Conrail for 37 years.
He was a world traveler and a health fanatic with a boisterous laugh and an unshakable sense of adventure. He will be remembered for his unfailing loyalty and generosity to friends and his exceptional vitality well into his 92nd year.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years and partner in all things, Patricia Hamilton Bayer; two sisters, Naomi Twining and Kay Hudson; two nieces, Laura Crary and Tina Moffat; his beloved cousins, Barbara Thoman and Don Lusher; as well as a large family of sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews who adored him.
Bruce will be buried in a private ceremony at South Florida National VA Cemetery.

Bruce Bayer was a constant point of fascination and admiration for me for as long as I can remember. A charming and generous man, Bruce lived a long and enviable life with my beloved Aunt Pitty (Patricia). To have earned his respect and enjoyed his company was truly a privelage. I will miss him very much.

As a young man, Bruce was drafted into military service to serve honorably in World War II. When Bruce talked about being at Omaha Beach on DDay, he always said, with tears in his eyes, "I never pulled a body from the ocean that had one grey hair". In April of this year, Bruce, Pat and I went to Omaha Beach -- it was the honor of my life. Bruce will never be forgotten. God bless his soul.

Bruce was a true friend to all of us and was never at a loss of words or stories. He will be greatly missed, but we know he had a great life. We're glad we were a part of it.
