Charles Glaser Obituary

Dr. Charles Walter Glaser

April 27, 1930-August 22, 2017

Chuck was born in the family farmhouse near Belmore, Ohio the youngest child of his parents, William Lester Glaser, and Margaret (Lena) Osborn Glaser. His childhood during the Depression taught him very early about the value of hard work and thriftiness. He helped on the farm through his school years, graduated from Leipsic (OH) High in 1948, and continued to

farm with his father. After losing a herd of calves to toxins, he set his mind on becoming a veterinarian and at the age of 27 entered The Ohio State University, earning his way with part time jobs. He graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1965 and set up the Trilby Animal Hospital on Tremainsville Rd. in Toledo, where he had a small animal practice until 1978. He then became a technical veterinarian with Vigortone Ag Products, traveling all over eastern United States, visiting large dairy and hog farms and agricultural universities until 1985. After a brief retirement, he invested in real estate in Findlay, OH, eventually building and managing over 400 apartments at Liberty Commons, Sandusky Square and the Charleston. He also had real estate investments in Las Vegas, NV.

He married Silver Purkey of Fostoria in 1951. They had four children, C. David (Barbara) of Tucson, AZ, Steven (Lucy) of Las Vegas, NV, Kathleen Grubbs of Tulsa, OK and Timothy of Tulsa, OK. Chuck and Silver divorced in 1982. In 1985 he married Terry Cowan Edwards who survives him. He leaves his children; two stepchildren, Jay (Emily) Edwards, and AnnThompson (Scott Rose); seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves his sister, Ruth Miles of Findlay. His brother, Eugene died in 2009.

Chuck was known as a man of action, a decision maker, a generous donor and a willing helper. His many friends and acquaintances always found him ready to talk with a smile and a pat on the back. He had a good baritone voice and enjoyed singing for church events for many years. His strongChristian faith was evident in the way he lived and behaved.

Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home and for one hour prior the services (10-11 a.m.) Monday at the College First Church of God.
