Chris Boggs Obituary

Chris Boggs

4/9/1963 - 10/19/2023

Chris Boggs passed away on October 19, 2023 at ProMedica Ebeid Hospice. She was 60.

Chris Ann (McCance) Boggs was born April 9, 1963 in Morenci, Michigan. She was raised in Toledo with her three siblings and graduated from Whitmer High School in 1981.

Chris started a career with the United States Postal Service before following her passion and earning a degree in landscape architecture. She also completed additional training through The Ohio State University to become a Master Gardener. Her love of nature and vast knowledge of horticulture led her to the Toledo Botanical Garden where she oversaw the greenhouse along with garden installation and preservation. During her time at TBG, she developed a deep appreciation for native plants and began partnering with other local groups to protect and restore native plants in Northwest Ohio.

Chris ultimately stepped away from her horticulture career to enjoy her role as Mei Mei with her nine grandchildren. She loved exposing them to nature and spent a lot of time exploring our many Metroparks, the Toledo Zoo and nearby botanical gardens.

In her free time, Chris actively volunteered with the Metroparks, Wild Ones and the Sylvania Tree Commission to continue her work with native plants. She was also dedicated to her church where she taught Sunday school and volunteered to plant and maintain the landscape.

While volunteering at her church in 2021, Chris fell from a ladder and suffered a traumatic brain injury which tragically altered every bit of her life. Following the accident, Chris lost her ability to walk and required assistance with all daily tasks. Even with intense therapies and rehabilitation efforts at top facilities, Chris spent the last two and a half years of her life being cared for by her daughters and unable to participate in any of the activities she so greatly loved. Despite her determination to achieve some recovery, she bravely accepted the unimaginable and requested to be placed in hospice care. The end of her life was exceptionally difficult so, while she is deeply missed, her family finds peace knowing she is reunited with her loving husband who passed away in 2014 following a battle with cancer. She is also now free of disability and able to garden in ultimate paradise.

Chris was proceeded in death by her husband, Eddie Boggs. Surviving are her children, Sara (John) Roemer and their children, Grant, Nola, Clay and Ruth; Grace Barton and her children, Landon, Jackson and Kate; and Allison Boggs and her children, Adelaide and Abigail. She is also survived by her parents, Ron and Carol McCance; sister, Beth (Aaron) Pinkus; brothers, Bryan McCance and Greg McCance; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held for immediate family followed by Chris' cremation at Walker Funeral Home. Donations can be made in Chris' name to the Metroparks Toledo Foundation. metroparkstoledofoundation.org/ways-to-give/

First of all, I want to commend her daughters for everything they did to make her life bearable. I followed the updates of her progress/not so much progress on Caring Bridge.
Chris was such a loving (oh boy, her grandkids knew that for sure) person, gentle, unassuming and just a great addition to our world. Thank God she is finally relieved of her earthly suffering!

Chris, you will be forever missed and remembered every day. I always think of you when I see the leaves on the trees turned "upside down," the way they do when they´re preparing for rain. I love to tell people about who taught me the reason the leaves do that. Chris, you gave me more than I ever deserved, and I wish I could have thanked you for all that you taught me and all that you showed me. You were as much a mother to me as my own.

To Sara, Grace, and Al - all of my love to you. I hope all of your babies are blessed with their Mei Mei watching over them forever. I am in awe of your strength and endless devotion to your mom. You could not have described her more beautifully or accurately, and I hope, like all of you, that she is back in her beautiful garden. May all of you, including your mom, find peace and comfort - it is so deserved.
