Chris Ziegler Obituary

ZIEGLER Chris Chris Ziegler, age 93, of Findlay died at 6:45 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2009, at his residence. He was born July 30, 1915, in Mehrstetten, Germany to Christian and Salome Ziegler. During World War II, Mr. Ziegler was conscripted to serve in the German Cavalry, serving on both the Eastern and Western fronts. He and his wife and children immigrated to a farm near Hanoverton, Ohio in 1956. He was a farmer and tire recapper until his retirement in 1980. Following retirement he relocated to Findlay, Ohio. He married Lena Rothenbacher on February 19, 1944, and she survives with a son, Emil (Joyce) Ziegler of Findlay and a daughter, Elfriede (John) Palo of Lenexa, Kansas; six grandchildren, Brent (Dianne) Ziegler, Christopher Palo, Michael (Carmen) Palo, Stephanie Palo, Neil Powell and Leslie Powell. Chris was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Findlay and the Lutheran Club and a member of the Saxon Club, Salem, Ohio. He thoroughly enjoyed his membership in the Toledo Schwabenverein and the family suggests memorial tributes to its Scholarship Fund in his memory c/o Herman Schmalzried, 24960 Lakewinds Drive, Perrysburg, Ohio 43651. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Bob Cochran officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Findlay. Visitation will be from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay and for one hour prior to the services (10-11:00 a.m.) Wednesday at the church.
