Christine Reynolds Obituary

REYNOLDS Christine Marie Christine Marie Reynolds, age 40, of Metamora, Ohio, passed away Thursday evening, October 12, 2006, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. For the past 6 months, Chris has fought a courageous battle with cancer She was born February 2, 1966, in Toledo, Ohio to Daniel and Janet (Barnard) Thomas. She was an elementary and special education teacher. On April 20, 1990, she married Douglas Reynolds. Christine was a devoted wife, mother, daughter and sister. She loved her family and was heartbroken to leave them so early, especially her children, Jacob and Shiloh. She loved teaching and was committed to home schooling her son and daughter. Chris embraced nature and enjoyed spending time outdoors camping and bicycling. She also was a passionate LaLeche League leader. Chris ("Mom"), you will be remembered forever in the beauty of nature and the world around us. You were my soul mate, loving wife, and nurturing mother. You will be painfully missed, and never forgotten. She is survived by her loving husband, Douglas; children, Jacob and Shiloh; her parents, Daniel and Janet Thomas; sister, Kimberly (James) Neumeyer; father-in-law, Charles Reynolds and mother-in-law, Suzanne Reynolds. Native American Prayer "I give you this one thought to keep - I am with you still - I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift, uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. Do not think of me as gone - I am with you still - in each new dawn." In honoring Christine's wishes, services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, OH 43551. When I first met Chris, I thought she was a strange and odd person. She was different from anyone else I had met before. Over the years, I came to understand and appreciate her character and her outlook on life and realize maybe I am the strange and odd one. She was an amazing individual whom I glad for having known. Thanks for helping me see life another way.

I sit typing, erasing, and retyping this, overwhelmed with so much to express yet desirous to do it with perfection, which is the least Chris deserves from me. And I’m grateful she’d appreciate the sentiment alone. Chris taught me much about living, about mothering, and about being. She was always ready to share a funny story about the dogs, the kids, or a science project. She listened intently, loved fully, and embraced life. My children recall visits to your home, particularly the first time they picked berries from your tree…Signe stood grinning, fingers and teeth dripping with juice, with a new affinity for boysenberries. I remember hanging out in your yard and playroom time and again, always feeling warm and welcome and somehow unworthy of the happiness and solace I found there. Chris and I talked on the phone across the miles several times over the past months and while I felt her condition was serious, she relayed frustration and sadness at not being able to do more for her family but never lost her positivity and hope. Chris was grateful for the help of her family and extended family during her illness, and I am grateful to have been touched by her. I miss my friend. I wish I had called and written and connected more often, but am comforted by the knowledge that my family is better for having been a small part of yours. I am better for having learned from Chris to enjoy the fine things in life: the love from dog slobber, the music in laughter, that dusting can wait but exploration can’t. I don’t know if I’ll ever be back in Toledo, but I do know I feel Chris every time I am in the Sierra Nevadas, every time I reach the summit of a rock wall in the Sequoias, every time I walk on the beach along the west coast, every time I step into my yard wherever I am because I know she would have found something to learn from, something to appreciate, something to love there. Peace to you.

Chris Reynolds was one of those rare individuals who enriched the life of everyone lucky enough to know her. She embraced life with an open heart and an open mind, and never lost the innate curiosity that she nurtured in her own kids, and the kids in our community. What will stay with me forever is the spark of her imagination, the sincerity of her dealings with others, and the sound of her laughter.

The Reynold's family has been in my thoughts and prayers for many months now. It will remain that way forever. Chris's fight really touched me. I remember how much fun her kids had with her singing in our music co-op. The short time I knew her I could tell how much she loved her children. I am so sorry for all of her family, a wonderful woman has passed from us.

Chris was a true support, mentor, and all-accepting person. What a zest for life she had! When we heard of her passing, our first meeting came to mind. We were at the Wildwood bird sanctuary with the kids. Together, we picked the brain of this poor man who seemed to know everything about the birds! Jacob was so proud to point out a titmouse bird to his mom. Shiloh was cuddled in tightly on Chris's lap, listening intently to everything mom had to say.

The last time we saw her, she was so proud to display her corn burner, and laughed about how it made the neighborhood smell like popcorn. She said that she wanted to put a sign out front that said "The Reynolds Popcorn Factory".

Chris was one of the warmest souls that I was ever blessed with to be able to call a friend. To say that she was a devoted & loving wife and mother is an understatement. Chris was born to mother and she loved it!! I will miss her humor and insights. Our prayers go out to her family.

I am so sorry to hear of Chris' passing. I friend from our graduating class emailed this morning to let me know. I played the flute in the band with Chris and went to school with her all my years in Sylvania. I remember she was very sweet and kind harted. She was a great flute player and so smart!! Her dad was my guidance counselor. I'm sure she'll be missed by all. Take care.
