Clyde Tisdale Obituary

TISDALE Clyde Edwin Jr. 3/9/34 - 2/25/12 Clyde Edwin Tisdale, Jr., was born to the late Reverend Clyde E. Tisdale, Sr. and Thelma M. Tisdale on March 9, 1934, in East Saint Louis, Illinois. He passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2012. Clyde was the second of fourteen children raised in Rossford, Ohio, affectionately referred to as "Brother-Boy" by his family. After graduating from Rossford High School, he accepted a scholarship to attend Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio and obtained a Bachelor's degree. In 1958 Clyde united in holy matrimony to the love of his life the late Mary Ellen McCown. Four children were added to their union; Cleora, Clyde Timothy, Mary Evangeline, and Carl Edwin. Clyde exemplified the character of an exceptional husband, father, and provider to his family. His employment included United States Army, YMCA Youth Director, Case Worker, and the Toledo Municipal Court. During his years at the court he worked in the Probation Department as a Probation Officer, Supervisor, Assistant Chief, and the Chief of Probation until his retirement in 1992. Clyde professed his faith in Christ, united with Friendship Baptist Church and served on the Men's Ministry and Security Ministry under the pastoral leadership of his youngest brother, Bishop Duane C. Tisdale. Clyde had a great appreciation and nurtured a deep rooted love for his Friendship Baptist Family, often reflecting on the powerful and moving sermons as well as affections he received from members. Clyde will be remembered for his unconditional love for his family and friends, fostering an environment for laughter, his dedication to Ohio State Buckeyes athletics, passion for the game of golf, but mostly cherished for his unwavering acts of kindness towards others. Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Tisdale; parents, Rev. Clyde E. Tisdale and Thelma M. Tisdale; sister, Dolline Beard; brothers, Charles E. and Carl S. Tisdale. He is survived by daughters, Cleora (Rodney) Alexander of Fairfax, Virginia and Mary Evangeline (Corey) Miller of Winchester, Kentucky; sons, Clyde Timothy (Denise) of Rixeyville, Virginia, and Carl Edwin of Aurora, Colorado; grandchildren, Jacquelyn (James) Cottom of Centreville, Virginia, Rodney and Katherine Alexander of Fairfax, Virginia, Brooke Tisdale of Rixeyville, Virginia, Amber and Annette Miller of Winchester, Kentucky; sisters, Cathern Morgan, Betty Edward, Margaret Tisdale, and Patricia Sloan (Claude); brothers, Gerald, Jack (Gloria), Donald (Linda), Gary (Tammy), Duane (Thelma), Delbert (Judy) Tisdale; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Fletcher, Vera Reed, and Judy Tisdale; three aunts, Bernice Hill, Dorothy and Lois Perry; as well as a grand host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Friday and the Home Going Celebration will begin at 12 noon on Friday, March 2, 2012 at Friendship Baptist Church 5201 Nebraska Avenue Toledo, Ohio, Bishop Duane C. Tisdale, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a college scholarship fund at Friendship Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. www.dalefh.com

Memories and Condolences
for Clyde Tisdale

Not sure what to say?

I called Clyde my friend, my fellow football player and my greatest mentor. He always had words of wisdom. We grew up one street apart and shared great memories in high school. They tried to make me a fullback and I was supposed to run ahead of Clyde and his brother and block. But they were way too fast . I loved Clyde as a brother.

I was sad to learn of Clyde's passing and wish to express my sincere condolences to the Tisdale family. I had the pleasure of working with Clyde at the court. He was passionate about his probation work and those he assisted, both clients and staff. When he would say, "I can take care of this," he would. He was a person you could rely upon to do the best and right thing. I hope your loving memories bring you comfort.

My memories will always be fond of my Uncle Clyde. We can rejoice in your home going because we know that you knew the Lord through the fruits that you displayed with your VERY BEING; every day of your life. That's just who you are. We will miss you though, but we know we will see you again. With time, prayer, and reconciliation the grief that we as a family are experiencing will lessen, but your presence is irreplaceable and your memory will live on.

March 4, 2012

To the Tisdale family,
You have my prayers and sympathy in your time of bereavement and Mr. Tisdale will be missed. He helped me get on at the probation department and didn't hold it against me that I graduated from The University of Michigan.

To Penny and T.I., I have many fond memories of your dad, mom and Pappy. I remember when both you, Alan and I would play together with your father looking out the window or coming outside from time to time just to make sure we were O.K. He was certainly a lot of fun. I remember that your mom would keep me after school when I was in first grade. One day, a foxy woman was walking down Searles and your father looked out of the window and said, "Ooo, look at that chick!" Your mom said, "Oh Clyde." At six years old, I did not know what a "chick" was, but now I look back and laugh. Your father really loved your mom. During my after school times at your house, I remember days when your father would take your mom into his arms and dance her around the living room, with no music. What great memories! Your dad was remarkable! I will keep you in my prayers!

I remember Mr Tisdale as my day camp instructor at the Indiana "Y" and my probation officer as a juvenile hardhead. His concern was to always be strong, and excuses for your bad choices you make in your life was a cop out.

Blessings to the Tisdale family,

To Catherine, Family and Friends,

The angels are always near to those who are grieving, to whisper to them that their loved ones are safe in the hands of God.

I also know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.

Keep your head up as we all continue on our life journey. With the love and help of our Lord and Savior we will make it.

God Bless!

Tisdale Family...We pray that you find comfort in the words of our brother, Apostle Paul

But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 5For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
