Corinne Krakoff Obituary

Corinne B. (Goldman) Krakoff

Corinne B. Krakoff, née Goldman, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 17, 2021, at the Ebeid Hospice, Toledo, Ohio at the age of 95. Corinne Krakoff was the daughter of Arnold "Abe" and Ida Goldman of Columbus, Ohio. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Corinne was a graduate of East High School in Columbus, Ohio, and a graduate of The Ohio State University where she earned a degree in Dental Hygiene in the first class of dental hygienists to graduate from that university. She married Dr. Kenneth B. Krakoff, also an Ohio State graduate, and a veteran of the US Army Air Corps in 1948. The couple settled in Toledo, Ohio where Dr. Krakoff began a successful dental practice and she worked as Dr. Krakoff's dental hygienist until their children entered elementary school. When Dr. Krakoff was recalled to service during the Korean War, Corinne accompanied him to Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina. Returning to Toledo after the Korean War, Corinne and Ken Krakoff raised two sons, David M. (Douglasville, GA) and Steven P. (Columbus, OH). Dr. and Mrs. Krakoff were married for sixty-nine years, and both were active in the community.

Corinne Krakoff held several managerial and administrative positions in the field of Health Care and Retirement Living, including time spent as Director of Leasing at Swan Creek Retirement Village and as a marketing and leasing consultant at the West Park Place senior living community in Toledo. She was also a well-known wedding planner and consultant in the Toledo area and managed the Bridal Registry Services program at the former Lasalle's and R.H. Macy's department store in the Westgate area.

Corinne's life was also notable for life-long commitment to serving the Toledo community through her involvement in a long list of charities and service organizations. Among the groups and organizations in which she was active were the Toledo Women's Club where she served as an officer and member of the Board of Trustees, Mobile Meals of Toledo in which she was a charter member active in the launch of this program in the Toledo area and also a member of the Board of Directors, and Satellites of the Medical College of Ohio where she served as Public Relations Chairman and also as a member of the Board of Trustees. In addition, Corinne Krakoff served as President of the Toledo Dental Auxiliary and as an officer and member of the Board of Directors of the Women's Auxiliary of the Ohio Dental Association at the local, state, and national levels. She served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Toledo Hospital Auxiliary, was a founding member of Project Hope in Toledo, and served as Chairman of Rare Books for Bookmart Toledo in its first three years in association with the Junior League and the Council of Jewish Women. Corinne was especially passionate about her involvement with Promedica, a non-profit health care system with locations in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan via her affiliation with its Board. She was also an energetic advocate for hospice services in northwest Ohio and was instrumental as a volunteer in the creation of the Promedica Ebeid Hospice. It was, therefore, fitting that she was a patient at Ebeid when she passed.

Corinne Krakoff was a dedicated mother and very engaged in the lives of her two sons, David and Steven, during their years at Horace Mann Elementary School where she served as a room mother and where she was active in the PTA. She was a devoted and beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. Corinne Krakoff was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Krakoff (2017); son, Steven Krakoff (2017); and daughter in-law, Linda (née Marshall) Krakoff (2002). She is survived by her oldest son, David Krakoff (Douglasville, GA); daughters-in-law, Lorna (née McGuire) Krakoff, Diane (née Butts) Krakoff; grandchildren, John Krakoff, Ryan Fair, Whitney Fair-Randall, Taylor Townsend, James Ross Townsend, Kathryn Krakoff, Sarah Krakoff; and great- grandchildren, Isabel Randall, Caroline Randall, Emma Rae Randall, Aleah Corinne Fair and Hayden Ann Fair.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the Temple Shomer Emunim, 6453 West Sylvania Avenue, Sylvania, Ohio 43560. There will be no Shiva. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Ebeid Hospice, Sylvania, Ohio. Arrangements by the Robert H. Wick/Wisniewski Funeral Home (419)535-5840.

I remember the excitement when, I am guessing when I was around fifth grade, we got new neighbors in the white brick house next door to my own home at 3461 Orchard Trail, Toledo, Ohio. The father had a bright red Porsche 911! My brother David was a year older, I believe, than David Krakoff, and Steve Krakoff was a year older than I was. Steve and I became fast friends, playing football in my backyard, basketball in the driveway, performing simulated heart transplants on one of those "visible man" models that had the skeleton and organs to assemble. (This was December 1967, at the time of the first heart transplant, so the Krakoffs must have moved in prior to that.) Such a wonderful family, and wonderful neighbors. All of us kids grew up and moved away, and then my father passed and later Dr. Krakoff passed, but my late mother, Delores, and Corinne remained good friends always, through thick and thin. My own memory of Corinne is exactly as she appears in this wonderful photograph, cheerful and bright and energetic and kind. To me she was always just a really nice lady and my friend's mom... lots of cookies and milk next door, always.... but it was not until reading this obituary that I realized how accomplished she was in so many different fields, and she did so much in the service of others. My mother also got involved in providing mobile meals so now I wonder whether Corinne had encouraged that interest. We lost my mother in April 2020, and I know that to the end of her days she cherished Corinne and their friendship. And I know how proud Corinne was of her two outstanding sons because from time to time my mother would share some news that she had from Corinne. She was a wonderful person and my family sends most sincere condolences to hers.
