Daniel Williams Obituary

Dr. Daniel George Williams

1952 - 2024

Dr. Daniel George Williams, a compassionate physician and pillar of the Toledo community, passed away on May 20, 2024, in Toledo, Ohio. Born on January 25, 1952, to James and Eleanor Williams, he dedicated his life to healing and caring for others.

Education and Medical Career: Daniel attended Saint Jude grade school and Saint Francis De Sales High School, graduating in the class of 1970. His passion for medicine led him to the University of Toledo, where he earned his undergraduate degree in 1979. Later, he pursued his dream of becoming a physician at the University of Cincinnati Medical College, graduating in 1982.

Dr. Williams completed both of his residencies at Toledo Hospital, honing his skills and deepening his commitment to patient care. During his tenure at St. Luke's Hospital, he served as chief of staff from 2004 to 2006, leaving an indelible mark on the institution.

Family Medicine Advocate: Known for his warm bedside manner and genuine concern for his patients, Dr. Williams specialized in family medicine. From seniors to children, he provided comprehensive care, emphasizing preventive health measures and fostering strong doctor-patient relationships.

Life Beyond Medicine: Beyond the clinic, Daniel embraced life with zest. An avid golfer, he achieved two Hole-in-ones -- an accomplishment he celebrated with infectious joy. His love for adventure took him scuba diving across exotic locales, where he marveled at the wonders of the underwater world.

Daniel's laughter was contagious, brightening the lives of those around him. His hands, skilled both as a designer and carpenter, crafted beautiful pieces that stood as testaments to his talent. Whether fixing a broken chair or remodeling a house, Dan's workmanship was unparalleled.

Family and Legacy: Daniel leaves behind his devoted wife, Nancy, who stood by his side throughout their journey. His sons, Patrick (Valerie), James (Jen), and John (Jordan) inherit his compassion and commitment to service. Stepchild, Jennifer (Partha) Roy shares in the family's grief.

His legacy extends to a loving array of grandchildren: Atlas, Cooper, Eleanor, Hannah, Ian, Miles, Priya, Ryker, Mackenzie, and Taron. Many nieces and nephews. Siblings, Ed (Jacquelyn), Jean Ryan, Ron, James, Gary, and Allan (Beth), Tina (sister-in-law), remember him fondly, cherishing memories of shared laughter and love.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John; brother-in-law, Jerry Ryan; sister-in-laws, Betty Williams, Rosemary Williams and Linda Williams.

In honor of Dr. Williams, the family requests donations to St. Francis De Sales High School or the Cincinnati College of Medicine, establishing a scholarship fund to inspire future healers. As per his wishes, Daniel's remains have been donated for medical research, ensuring that others may benefit from his selfless spirit.

A celebration of his remarkable life will be held at a later date, allowing friends, family, and colleagues to gather and share stories of a man who touched countless hearts.

May his memory be a blessing.

Dan was our family doctor for 25 years before he retired. On my first visit, he commented that I was at that "perfect age". When I asked him to explain, he revealed that he was the same age as me. At a later visit, he talked about my good health and I joked that someday I would invite him to my 100th birthday party. He looked at me and realized that he would also need to make 100. He always had a smile and a joke to tell. One of his favorites was looking into one of my ears and saying that he could see my wife out the other ear.

Many years ago, when our family doctor, L.S. Pugh, M.D. retired, my parents decided it would be best to get a young doctor who would be around for many years. It worked out very well for us. Doctor Dan Williams was my doctor from sometime in the mid-80s until he retired. I actually enjoyed my visits - whether for a scheduled check-up or to take care of some issue that was affecting me. His staff were all friendly, professional and clearly enjoyed working with the doc. That certainly put his patients at ease during visits to the office. My condolences to his family and close friends during this sad time.

Dr. Dan took care of me for 12 years or so until he retired. He was very caring and incorporated good humor in his practice. He was a humble man. In 2022 I ran into him at White Pines Golf Course and said, "Thank you for taking care of me". He responded, "Thank you for letting me take care of you."

Dr. Dan was an amazing man. He was funny, compassionate and extremely patient. He had a great command of the English language and was able to cite versus backwards! He was always a pleasure to be around. He and Nancy made everybody feel at home.

Words cannot express my feelings over hearing of Doc's passing. He was a wonderful and fun loving guy. I cleaned for them
until I retired. He told me to enjoy retirement and my new home in the Adirondacks. I kept in touch with them after retiring and always made sure I went and visited when I went back to Ohio. I will miss those visits with him, funny stories and jokes. Nancy you are in my thoughts and prayers. I love you both. Rip Doc

Dr. Dan, my employer, my friend. I was just one of his "day wives" as he referred to us girls that worked with him. It was such a joy to show up for work each day as his smile, his humor and his kindness was always present. He truly loved his job and it showed in the care he provided his patients. He was our faithful leader and we would all gladly follow where he would lead. He was so compassionate about teaching when we would have a young upcoming new doctor taking their turn in our office. His patients felt important and he never rushed them, giving them all the time they needed yet never running behind for the next patient. I'll always cherish that at my youngest high school graduation party he is the only one that made many stops at the turned in chair, a hat and a glass pulled with my dad's favorite
gin i had placed so he could be present at my son's party since he had passed a few months before. Each time taking a sip and raising the glass to say "here's to you old man". He convinced me to take up golf so I could enjoy the game with my husband. He introduced us to the course we still play at today. My last game was in his honor and he helped me play and extraordinary round. My world will never be quite the same without him in it. I am honored to have know him and very proud to say he was not only my boss, but more importantly my friend. I'll miss you old friend. Rest peacefully Dr. Dan as heaven just became so very lucky to gain one very special angel. Until I can share a glass with you again....

Our family (my husband, two sons and I) were patients of Dr. Dan´s. In fact our two sons, unknowingly, were his last two patients he saw before retiring. We were devastated when we found out he had retired. He was one doctor you looked forward to visiting. Always a smile. Always a "funny" to tell. My husband has told a story about Dr. Dan many times over through the years. During one of his office visits, there was a knock on the door with the announcement that "Mr. Jones" was on the phone. He excused himself to take the call. When he returned, knowing my husband was also a golfer from their many conversations over time, he admitted that "Mr. Jones" was his cue that the call was about a tee time. This morning, upon shockingly reading his obituary, I texted a copy to our sons. Lucas promptly called me, and we shared a few tears together at the loss of such a great man. Tim is noticeably quiet this morning after reading the obituary. Our family is eternally grateful to have been under Dr. Dan´s care for so many years. There will never be another Dr. Dan.

Dr. Williams was a wonderful, caring, understanding person. Was the doctor for my kids as well as myself. Always a smile and a laugh even when the kids were not happy. So sorry for the loss of a wonderful person. Prayers

When I started working with Dr Dan at Ft Meigs Family Physicians, I felt very much "at home". Maybe it was all the laughter that floated around the hallways, as well as a few of those 'other' words, or it was the oldies radio station we listened to. Dr Dan was always up for talking music; said he helped himself get thru school with playing/singing with bands. We both played guitar and when he found out I had a 12 string, he borrowed it - repaired it and refused to let me repay him. Music trivia everyday. Patients would even play along. And laughing. Always. Worked with him for 11 years, until he retired. Will ALWAYS be my favorite office.
Dr. Dan's patients loved him! He felt the patient's time was as important as his time. It was almost standard practice for the patient to be leaving the office BEFORE the time of the appointment. I loved that about Dr Dan. Put his pants on one leg at a time, just like the rest of us regular folks.
I truly believe heaven's comedy & music shows will be very happy with "our Dr. Dan".

I also worked with Dr. Dan (the bandaid man) which was one of the cute nicknames. The staff would sometimes announce his arrival to Heartland with: Elvis is in the house and Elvis has left the building upon his departure. Dr. Dan was a fun and caring doctor. He planned many golf party's which included our staff who wanted to participated, and always had a meal afterwards! A man who was liked by all who met him. He will be missed. RIP Dr. Dan

I worked with "Dr Dan" @ Heartland of Perrysburg for many years. One thing stands out is the day of 9/11. Dan came and got me as we watched the terrible devastating events on TV. He was caring, friendly, kind and loving. My thoughts and prayers are with his entire family.
