David M. Drury

David M. Drury, February 11, 1929 - September 28, 2018. Writer, Editorialist, Documentarian. He was born in Toledo, OH to Marie (McNeil) and Francis Drury. He attended Sacred Heart School and Central Catholic High School. He served as the Sports Editor of The Collegian newspaper at the University of Toledo and was graduated in 1952. Following graduation, he attended the U.S. Marine Corps Officer Candidates School, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, and served in the Marine Corps in Korea from 1952 to 1954. In Korea, he was selected as one of two from an applicant field of over 800 to fill a new post created at President Eisenhower's request. He was responsible for providing news reports to the citizens of the United States about the war's events. He also served in the Marine Corps Reserve and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain.

Upon his return to civilian life, he worked in civil defense and for the Toledo Chamber of Commerce. He married his one true love, Agatha Bruno, on January 8, 1955. The couple made their home in Toledo, then, Waterville, Ohio, where they raised 6 children. With close friend, Joe Bernstein, he owned and operated The Monitor newspaper for a short time before beginning a career with WSPD TV and radio, 1960-1980. He was a pioneer in the field of broadcast editorials, serving as the station's first Editorial Director. He was also a correspondent to

Washington, D.C. and a documentarian, including Last Chance for a Great Lake. His work was recognized many times by the Associated Press. He was then employed at Bowling Green State University, in Public Relations, and as the Marketing Director for WBGU-TV PBS station.

He was first and foremost a family man. Upon retirement, he and Aggie enjoyed traveling and visiting with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved to swim and kept himself physically fit his entire adult life. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Finvola Drury. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Aggie Drury; daughters, Mary (Tim) Rogers, Dubois, WY, Aggie (Joe) LeGros, London, OH, Bridget (David) Bennett, Toledo, OH, Cindy (Charlie)

MacDonald, Gillette, WY; sons, Dave (Melissa) Drury Jr., Loveland, OH, and Dan (Faryal) Drury, Toledo, OH; eleven grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.

He donated his body to the University of Toledo Medical Center. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass celebrating his life,will be held at St. Joseph's Church, Maumee, OH, on Saturday, October 13 at 11 a.m. The family will greet guests for one hour before. A lunch reception will follow the service in the gathering room next to the Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to St. Joseph's Church, Maumee, the Cherry Street Mission, or a charity of the donor's choice.

The family thanks the doctors, nurses, aides, and staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, for their skilled and compassionate care.
