Debra Lewandowski Obituary

Debra Ann Lewandowski

Deb Lewandowski, 69, of Gulfport, FL, and formerly of Toledo, OH, passed away in her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. The cancer she bravely fought for two years never defeated her spirit – she was optimistic and continued to treasure time with her family and friends.

Born to Frank and Dolores (Stachowiak) Lewandowski in 1952, Deb was the oldest of four children. Her siblings adored her. In 1970, she graduated from Central Catholic High School and began her 33-year career working for Sears. She formed many lifelong friendships there and reminisced frequently and fondly of that time. After leaving Sears, Deb continued to work and ultimately retired in 2015. At that time, she moved to Gulfport, where she often said every day was a Saturday.

Deb was kind and compassionate. She saw the best in people and treated everyone with respect. She believed in equality. To her, family (given and chosen) meant everything. She took pride in her homes and volunteered regularly. Deb loved and spoiled her canine companions of past (Rocky and Journey) and present (Izzy). She was fortunate in many ways, but never took things for granted. Everyone who met Deb was fond of her. She will be missed.

In addition to her parents, Deb was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Agnes Lewandowski; grandparents, Steve and Hattie Stachowiak; and brother, Mark Lewandowski. She is survived by her sisters, Lynn (Dave) Kubacki and Francine "Fred" (Greg) Pfahler; nieces, Kelly, Becky, and Lindsay; nephews, Todd and Kyle; a large extended family; and innumerable friends in both the Toledo and Gulfport areas.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Ahmad Shaker and his St. Petersburg oncology team, as well as Deb's dear friend and unwavering caregiver through her illness, JoAnne. Knowing Deb was in such good hands was a comfort.

A celebration of Deb's life will be held at Shawn's Irish Tavern, 105 S. 3rd St., Waterville, OH, from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, June 5th. Memorial contributions may be made in Deb's name to your local Humane Society or a charity of your choice. Funeral services will be private.

My sincere condolences to Deb´s family. Even though we somehow lost touch long ago, I really feel Deb´s loss. Jackie Pozniak Bryant and Deb and I were roommates and good friends for several years after graduation. We had many great times together, including a month-long trip out west in a dilapidated `67 VW bus. (What our kids don´t know! :) )
Deb was a beautiful person and kind soul. I´m so sorry we were never able to reconnect.

My sincere condolences to Lynne, Francine, and your families on the loss of Deb....I treasure my high school and early adult memories with Deb as a great friend, and interacting with your wonderful and kind parents and Deb´s siblings! I will always remember her fondly!
Love and Hugs to you all...Jackie
