Donald Boehm Obituary

BOEHM

Donald F.

Donald F. Boehm, 73, of Maumee, Ohio, drew his first breath of eternal life, on Friday, October 2, 2015. He passed peacefully in his home, with the help and grace of hospice nurses.

Donald was born at home on June 28, 1942, to Fred and Gladys Boehm, of Swanton, Ohio. He later returned to the family homestead, resurrecting it into a sanctuary of joy for life's celebration. His labor of love was a gift to his family and friends.

Donald graduated as co-salutatorian of the Swanton High Class of 1960. He attended Bowling Green University, and continued his love of learning throughout his life. His love of non-fiction, with its limitless spectrum, fueled his energy for life. He possessed the unique ability to read directions and execute them successfully. His love of books and education are his legacy to his children and grandchildren.

Donald worked in business management for Gulf, Montgomery Ward, and the University of Toledo, until his retirement in 2002.

Donald was preceded in death by his brother, Bill, whom he admired and respected. Mary Lou, Dee Dee, Marilyn, and Bob are surviving siblings.

Cherishing his memory, are his wife, Paula; son, James (Laura) Boehm of Canton, CT; and daughter, Janna Shonebarger of Delta, OH. His greatest joy were his grandchildren, Andrew, Nathan, Claudia, and Daniela.

A memorial service to honor Donald will be held at Waterville Community Church, 8217 Dutch Rd., Waterville, Ohio, on Thursday, October 8, 2015, at 6:00 p.m.; reception to follow service.

A special thank you to his lifelong friends, and church family for their faithfulness, love and grace; and especially everyone at Hospice of Northwest Ohio and Cremation Society of Toledo for the dignity, comfort, and respect shown to the one we hold in such high esteem.

May the Lord bless you and keep you, may His light shine upon you and be gracious to you, may He look upon you with favor and grant you peace. Num. 6:24-26

I worked with Don at Montgomery Ward and he mentored me in 1984-1985 in my first management position as an Assistant Department manager in the men's department (I'm now a co-director of a multi-million research center). Don was always kind supportive, friendly, and made the workplace enjoyable. He shared with me the importance and value of creating a team among yourself and the people that you supervise. I'm glad to have known him and honored to have had him as an early career management mentor.

I remember Don, he was a coworker of mine at UT. Here is Don: trustworthy, inquisitive, funny, hard working, old fashioned honest, and a prized worker. Rest in God's peace, Don.

To the family and friends of Don: I was very saddened to hear of Don's passing. Don and I worked at the University of Toledo for many years. Don was a wonderful person and I'm sure you already miss him like crazy. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Mrs. Boehm,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences for the loss of your husband and friend. Please know that he is wrapped in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and is at peace. I wish I could be at the Memorial Service Thursday evening, but I am teaching and there is no one to sub for me. If you are in need of anything, a hug, someone to talk to who has walked in the very same shoes that you are or just an ear, please do not hesitate to call.
