Donald N. Schnell

12/05/1942 - 08/04/2025

Donald N. Schnell, 82, of Sylvania, Ohio, and formerly of Oregon, Ohio, passed away Monday, August 4, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his wife and family. Don was born on December 5, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio, to John and Myrtle (Sweet) Schnell. He contracted polio at age 7 and learned to walk all over again. Don graduated in 1960 from Clay High School and was a member of the Clay High School Marching Band, playing the cornet. He was a graduate of Davis Business College and served in the United States Army Reserves. On November 30, 1963, Don married the love of his life, Jane Hofbauer, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, in Toledo. Don was employed by Doehler-Jarvis Industries for 30 years, beginning as a billing clerk, eventually becoming plant controller. He then worked for Harvard Industries in Tiffin, Ohio. Don and Jane moved to Indianapolis in 1999 where he was employed by Intat Precision in Rushville, Indiana, and retired there after completing his 42-year career in Financial Tier-1 Automotive service. Don was an avid golfer, loved sailing and camping with his family, and was a huge fan of the University of Michigan football team. Don was a very loving and devoted husband and father, as well as an amazing Papa and Great-Grandpa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane; children, Todd (Kim) Schnell, Tom (Anne Tallon) Schnell, Caroline (David) Burough, and Kevin Schnell; grandchildren, Megan Schnell, Jonathan Schnell, Laura Schnell, Jason Burough and Jesse (Jess Wait) Brown; great-grandchildren, Callie Schnell, Avery Jane Schnell, Eevee Mary and Bellatrix Helena Brown; brother, Jack (Eileen) Schnell; sister-in-law, Robin (Dick) Mullet; along with many nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandsons, Josh Schnell and Seth Burough.

The family will receive friends at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, at the Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Sunday, August 10th, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., with a scripture service at 1:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 212 N. Jane and family, I am so sorry for the loss of Don. It´s been many tears, but I have never forgotten both you and Don and of course, all three children. God bless you all.
