Doris Strane Obituary

Doris Strane

June 3, 1933 - May 9, 2024

One of God's most beautiful candles has gone dark.

Doris C. Strane died on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at her residence, Vibrant Life, in Temperance, Michigan. She had been ill for some time with the effects of dementia. Doris was born on June 3, 1933, into a large and growing family in Detroit, Michigan, where she was the fourth of six children. She attended Edison Elementary School and Redford High School, both in Detroit.

After living in Detroit for several decades, where she raised her family, Doris moved to Toledo in 1974, and had a job briefly with the florist Bartz-Viviano. She then went to work for the legal firm of Williams Jilek Lafferty Gallagher & Scott, in downtown Toledo, as a receptionist and activities coordinator. She remained in that position until she retired, more than 30 years later.

For many years, Doris was a member of the Pride of Toledo, a Sweet Adelines chorus, making many friends and traveling extensively around the U.S. She played golf for many years, and bowled for years in several leagues. She had an eye for design, which showed in many of her hobbies, from sewing costumes to lovingly decorating her home.

Her primary passion though, was University of Michigan Football. On a fall Saturday, she loved nothing better than tailgating with friends at the Ann Arbor Golf & Outing Club before heading to the Big House for a game.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene E. and Doris L. Stegner; her two older sisters, Marilyn (Runkle), and Joann (Barton); and her older brother, Girard.

Doris is survived by her two beloved children, Timothy (Suzie), and Carrie (Tom) Henneman. She was always a warm and loving presence in the lives of her three grandchildren, Andrea (Shrey) Shah, Douglas (Abigail), and Nicole (Brian) Fetrow. Doris is also survived by two younger siblings, Thomas (Linda), and Margaret Vore; six great-grandchildren, Willow, Winona, Weston, Walker, Anjali, and Benny. She will also be deeply missed by her ex-husband, Robert Strane.

Doris was a loving and determined lady. She will be deeply missed by all.

What a lovely person and friend. Very accomplished in a variety of projects but her best was with sewing and design especially for the Pride of Toledo Sweet Adeline Chorus. I'm sure she is missed by many and so happy to call her a friend. Priscilla Apostol of Pride of Toledo Chorus

To Doris´ family: Doris was a beloved member of Pride of Toledo chorus. She was the designer of many of our costumes. They were always very stylish and appreciated by everyone. Please accept my condolences.
