Dorothy Jane
Dorothy Jane Bowe, age 103, passed away on December 18, 2016. She was born on May 24, 1913, in Tiffin, Ohio.
Dorothy graduated from Columbian High School then attended Heidelberg College where she achieved a degree in Education. After college, she moved to Cleveland and taught English for 5 years in local high schools.
Dorothy was the proud daughter of Fanny M. and Earl Erastus Bowe and sister of brother, Robert E. Bowe, all whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her niece, Robin Jacob; great-nephews, Chuck, Patrick and John Jacob and great-niece, Julie (Doug) Cook.
Dorothy moved to Toledo where she was employed by Owens Illinois for many years. Dorothy was a consummate Professional Secretary to the president of OI for a number of years until her retirement at age 70.
Dorothy loved to garden and took great pride in her home and garden. She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds.
Dorothy loved her church, Epworth United Methodist, and worked as a volunteer for the school department every Monday doing the work she loved best. She leaves behind many dear Epworth friends. One of Dorothy's memorable events at Epworth was traveling to Jerusalem, Israel with a group from her church and her brother, Bob. Dorothy was also a member of the Toledo Zoo for many years and attended special events.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church, 4855 W. Central, Toledo, Ohio 43615.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in memory of Dorothy Bowe, to the church.
