This is very sad News. He was my favorite teacher at Longfellow. I was in his homeroom in 7th grade. Yes he made us dance, which I hated at the time but it came in handy later. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Lola & Beth,

My thoughts and prayers are with you both. As I read through the many comments here in the guest book my only regret is that I didn't know him earlier in his life. Having been his massage therapist for the past year and a half I got glimpses of his sense of humor and his love of family. He was a great guy.

Mr. Sheline was my very favorite teacher. He was my 5th grade teacher at Oakdale school. I went to college in my thirties to become a teacher. I had to write a philosophy on education. Mr. Sheline was the inspiration for my paper, which I dedicated to him. I found Mr. Sheline at Beverly School. I presented him with a copy of my educational philosophy and preceeded to tell him what a difference he had made in my life. You will be missed by so very many -- my "To Sir With Love...

Dear Lola and Family...
The Sheline name and family will always be a part of the heritage of Boulevard Church. Thank you for letting Him use you during your time there. Dick always had a smile and an encouraging word whenever we had a chance to visit. We know the last few years have been difficult, but Praise the Lord....Dick is Home!

I wanted to let you know that whenever I think of Jones Jr. High, I picture myself sitting in Mr. Sheline's class. As one earlier student wrote, I also had a crush on him. He had that sparkle in his eye. Michael, for some reason, I remember meeting you somewhere along the way.

I tend to live my life in the moment, and can so relate to the joy he brought to those around him. What a legacy to leave behind...a bunch of young school girls are missing little piece of their hearts today.

Mr Sheline was my favorite grade school teacher at Oakdale. A wonderful teacher and so personable with his students. I have wondered about him throughout the years. I'm very glad to read that he led such a full life. All of us girls at Oakdale were in love with Mr. Sheline!

Mike & Lola
So sorry to hear about Dick's passing. One fond memory I have of Dick is the one night him and Newell took on my friend at College, Gordon and I in bridge. Gordon and I had played dupicate bridge that year at OU. We thought we were pretty good. Boy did Newell and Dick give us a bridge lesson that night! Hope all is well with the Sheline family. You have both Shirley and my deepest sympathy.

So sorry to hear of your husband's passing. We spent many hours and days at the bridge table with he and Newell and partnered with them to win several team events. I will always remember Dick for his boisterous love of life. He will be missed.

One of the great guys and a great friend. I have so many memories of the hundreds of times we were together - horse racing, bridge, golf, hanging out at his house. Trips to Myrtle Beach, Florida, Waterford Race track, breeder's cup, bridge tourneys. He certainly didn't get cheated in life, at least not during the years we spent together.
I know he will be missed. I have often thought of him through the years and it is too bad making connection never worked out.
I hope Lola gets through this well.

Mr. Sheline was my 6th Grade teacher at Jones Jr. High School during the 63-64 school year. I didn't know he had acquired his Master Bridge award during that school year. He was a very good teacher and I enjoyed his teaching alot.
He always came to class with a smile on his face and he was always energetic and enthusiastic. When I went on to Libbey High School I remember Michael in the Cross Country meets we would have and met Mr. Sheline for the first time after having him as my teacher, when we raced at Ottawa Park one year. If I recall correctly Mike ran for Devilbiss and I think Mike got thrown into the little pond that year there for winning the meet.

Mr.Sheline was one of my teachers at Jones Jr.High. I am 61 years old now and i look back on how some teachers really left a lasting image that you remember. Mr. Sheline took time every morning as the students arrived joking, laughing calling each by their name or pet names. He took an interest, he enjoyed teaching and we all respected him. Thank you for sharing him and making him a part of so many of our lives.

Your dad sounds like such a great guy. The tributes from his former students brought a tear to my eye! I hope that I can make an impact with my students like your father did. Let me know if there is anything you need.

Lola & family: I have fond memories of Dick not just from family events, but also from my time at Jones Jr. High. Although he was not my teacher, I always knew he was keeping an eye on me. My deepest sympathy to you all.

Mr Sheline was one of my favorite grade school teachers at Longfellow, one thing I always remember was that if you had Mr Sheline for class you had to learn how to square dance, we used to dance with Mrs Goode's class. Also what was always unique was the way he tought us a to play kickball (similiar to cricket) we never ran around the bases, but had to run around two cones. One funny thing I remember was one day when Mr Kuntz (principal) came in Mr Sheline had a racing form from Raceway Park that he hid under the paper on his desk, thats something I always think of that when I go out to Raceway Park.

He was a great teacher and after 28 years I still have all these great memories of 4th grade.

Rest In Peace, you did a great job. My condolences to his family.

Dick was a great friend of my late father Newell Kest. As a bridge team they traveled all over the country winning many competitions. The Sheline family continue to be great friends of the Kest family.
