Edith Davis

Edith Davis Franklin, 89, died August 31, 2012, at Northwest Ohio Hospice, Perrysburg, Ohio. She was the only child of Rebecca and Stanley Davis. Known as "La Grande Dame of the Arts" or "The Godmother of Ceramics," Edith was a native Toledoan, born in 1922. Edith was the co-founder of the Potters Guild and founder and trustee of the Toledo Area Glass Guild. She was a charter member of the National League of American Pen Women Northeast Ohio and a member of the Craft Club of Ohio, as well as a member of the Athena Art Society.

Edith is survived by daughter, Nan Franklin Ciralsky (Robert) of Milwaukee, three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, James Franklin.

A memorial service for Edith will be held Sunday, September 2, 2012, 11 a.m. at The Temple, 6453 Sylvania Avenue. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Edith Franklin Youth Arts Fund at Toledo Community Foundation, Inc, 300 Madison Avenue, Suite 1300, Toledo, Oh 43604, Toledo Museum of Art, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, or a charity of the donor's choice.
