Edward Holler Obituary
HOLLER Edward John Edward John Holler passed away on June 26, 2006, surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home in Toledo, OH. He was born in Rochester, PA on August 20, 1924, to Edward and Ruth (Smith) Holler. Ed married his wife of nearly 57 years, Barbara James, on his birthday in 1949 in Magnolia, OH. Known as the toughest little center on the Rochester High School football team, Ed went on to attend Penn State University. After two years at Penn State, he fulfilled his military obligation by first serving in the Army and then was transferred to the Navy due to an appointment as an alternate to the Naval Academy. Deciding not to pursue a military career, he returned to Penn State and graduated with a degree in Chemistry. At Penn State, Ed earned four varsity letters as a catcher on the baseball team and was a member of Alpha Chi Sigma fraternity. He began his career as a research chemist with Babcock & Wilcox in Alliance, OH and during the evening attended William McKinley School of Law in Canton, OH. Upon graduation and admittance to the Ohio Bar in 1954, Ed joined the Owens Illinois Patent Department in Toledo, OH and during his nearly thirty year career rose to the position of Director of Patents and also served as president of the Toledo Patent Association from 1962-1963. Ed enjoyed golf and gardening and devoted many hours to coaching his sons' baseball teams. He was a life long fan of Penn State football and celebrated as the Nittany Lions won the 2005 Big Ten Championship. Ed was an active member of Magnolia United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Ohio and American Bar Associations, the Masons, Shrine and Jesters. Survived by his loving wife Barbara; sons, Ed (Karen) Holler and grandchildren, Kristen and John of Sylvania, OH, Jim (Connie Iott) Holler and step granddaughter, Jesse Heider of Sylvania, OH, daughter, Susie (Joe) Pavela and grandchildren, Joe Jr. and Lindsay of La Crosse, WI, and bro- thers Don (Bev) Holler of Paradise, PA, Dave (Ginny) Holler of Port St. Lucie, FL and Melvin (Mary) Holler of San Diego, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bob. Family and friends may visit the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home, 266 N. Main Street, Magnolia, OH, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29. Funeral services will be held at the fun-eral home on Friday, June 30 at 11:00 a.m. followed by burial at Magnolia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Magnolia United Methodist Church, 999 Canal Street, Box 417, Magnolia, OH 44643.
