SCHAEFFER Franklin Samuel "Sam" Franklin Samuel "Sam" Schaeffer, 72, of Scottsdale, AZ passed away on September 8, 2006. He was born on February 4, 1934, in Toledo, the second child of Merritt and Martha Schaeffer. Sam graduated from Waite High School in 1952, where he was a member of the basketball team and earned All-City League honors. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea from 1953-1955. Following his honorable discharge, he obtained a Bachelor's degree from the University of Toledo in Education. His genuine friendship and warmth endeared him to his peers, the faculty and the students. At the end of his career, the college honored him by creating an award in his name given to the student who best exemplifies Sam's characteristics.
