Fred KOPP Obituary

KOPP Fred E. Fred E. Kopp, age 77, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at his home. He was born November 24, 1932 in Toledo, OH to Fredrick and Ella (Lotz) Kopp who preceded him in death. Fred will be missed by his family and music lovers of Toledo. Fred was best known as an elegant jazz pianist playing, most recently, for many years at Fifi's. Other clubs that enjoyed Fred's music included; Rusty's, Commodore Perry Hotel, Northwood Villa, Belmont Country Club, Joey's Supper Club and many others. Fred served as a volunteer for Toledo Federation of Musicians' Union, including a term as Vice President. He assisted in the creation of Swing Into Spring, a musical showcase for local musicians. For 45 years Fred was employed by New York Central and Amtrak Railroad. As a Marine Fred proudly served his country during the Korean War. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 38 years, Judy, Children, Fred Jr. (Lynn), Ken ((Jeannie), Mike (Michele) Kopp, Lorri (Bill), Linda (Chuck), Bob (Kelly) McCormick, Fred's former wife, Jill Lee and his extended family, 12 Grandchildren and 8 Great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank all the dedicated physicians who treated Fred especially his friend, Dr. William Schafer, whose counsel and humor assisted Fred many days. As always we owe a great amount of gratitude to Julie Coyle for all she does and to Jim Gottron his loyal friend of more than 40 years. At Fred's request no services will be held. Any donations can be made to the Toledo Federation of Musicians Union. Arrangements entrusted to Bedford Funeral Chapel, 8300 Lewis Avenue, Temperance, MI. whenever Fred saw me come in the door of Fifi's, he started playing "Crazy"...my favorite song. What a class man he was...he and his talent will surley be missed. Sleep well, my friend.

My condolences to Judy and family. As a teenager, I sometimes sat beside Fred while he played piano at my mother's (Beverly) bar. While I didn't
take up piano, he was an inspiration for me to play music. I regularly recall those memories and admire him. God Bless Fred, Judy, and his family.

I'm quite saddened to hear of Fred's passing. He was and will always remain a musical inspiration for me. The man could swing! I saw Fred at Fifi's New Years Eve 2007 and he still had great passion for the piano. He was a real gentleman. God be with you.

My condolences to Fred's family. My mother, Mary Ann Russo, always had the kindest things to say about Fred. He was a "household name" in our musical family. You will be in our thoughts.

My husband worked with Fred on the Railroad. Knowing that Fred played piano at Fifi's, he took me there for our anniversary one year to hear Fred play. He played some of our favorite songs that night, helping to make the evening so special.I have always remembered that. My husband passed away several months ago. Thanks for the wonderful memory Fred.
