Gary Edwards Obituary

Mr. Gary Alan Edwards, Sr., age 62, of Toledo, died on Thursday, September 22, 2005, in The Toledo Hospital. He was born February 12, 1943, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to William and Leota Edwards but was raised in Toledo, Ohio.
He was the president and co-founder of Black Pride Incorporated, the founder of East Toledo Helping Hand, Homes With a Heart Foster Care Agencies and a U.S. Air Force Veteran. In the mid '70's, his insightful expressions were shared on the talk shows "Make It Relevant" and "Person to Person".
He was an active and faithful witness of Jehovah for over 23 years and was an asset to his congregation and community. He was completely selfless never thinking of himself in individual terms. The relationships that he developed over the decades through his bible education work and youth programs were indelible, innumerable, and immeasurable.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his eternal soul mate and wife of 33 years, Gerald Edwards and children, Dawn Kimberly (Robert Morton) of Dayton, OH, Carla Denise (Kermit LeGree), Shawn Tracey (Clio Renee Talley) of Dayton, OH, Gary Alan Edwards Jr., Jo-Lynn (Michael White), Kelly Edwards, Gerald Sara-Evone Edwards; 16 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson; brother, Laurence (Peggy) Edwards; sister, Saundra (Leon Simms); stepmother, Myrtle Edwards and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to Toledo Firefighters at Station 17 and Life Squad 4 and the staff at Toledo Hospital CCU. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, September 24, 2005, at 5:30 p.m. at the West Central Kingdom Hall, 890 W. Bancroft Street.

Just wanted to let you know that we are sorry for your lost and that we have you in our prayers Heres a poem that I wrote I hope you like it. Dee.

It's Ok To Cry For Me Now

It's ok to cry for me now. You see imperfection has robbed the desire of life from me. No, it's not natural for us to die, if this were true, then, there wouldn't be a need for you to cry for me now.

So, if you want to cry it's ok to cry for me now.

Yes I'll be missed but not forgotten. For Jehovah's memory I now resided. Just a little while longer and I will hear his voice and I will come out of his memory to a resurrection.

Yes tears of Joy will replace the tears of Pain.

So if you want to cry for me now it's ok.

But If you must cry, I'd rather you cry, not now but later with tears of Joy when we see each other again in the Resurrection.

All my life I wanted to know what a true father was, the way I saw him interact with his children gave me a since of hope. And a prayer that I always wanted answered. And when I met him I found that, so I will always be greatful and honored to have had the chance to meet a wonderful man. my heart and prayers are with you. Love LaShawn.

To: Sister Edwards & Family

At times like these it is quite hard to express feelings. I do want each of you to know that I am deeply sorry. Please don't ever forget that Jehovah has promised to bring such gatherings like these to an end. Think of the day now when instead of signing online guestbooks, names will be read from the Book of Life.

May Jehovah continues to hold each of you dear to his heart. As you know he feels the pain that you are carrying and He will continue to give you the comfort, strength, and courage to go on until he reunites us once again with our love ones.

With Love,

From Sister Pegues

I'm very sorry for your loss. I went to Woodward HS with Gary and while I didn't know him very well except for one class we shared, he was always friendly. It looks like he led a very productive life and I'm sure he will be missed.
