Gerald Joseph Bick

Gerald Joseph "Joe" Bick, 94, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, in Fort Myers, Florida.

Born on November 26, 1930, in Toledo, Ohio, Joe lived a long and full life marked by dedication to family and the joys of nature and sport.

Joe was a graduate of the University of Toledo and had a long career at Owens Illinois in the Forest Products Division. He received multiple honors from the Institute of Paper Chemistry and TAPPI.

He served honorably in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Jane Bick; children, Bart (Karen), Thomas (Mary Ann), Phillip (Marcy), Thad (Joan), Andy (Mai), and Nate; twelve grandchildren, Donald Bick, Sandy Zielinski, Adam Bick, Abby Bick, Jamie Bick, Jonathan Bick, Jake Bick, Brian Bick, Nicole Bick, Dakota Bick, Dillon Bick and Joey Bick; and nine great-grandchildren, Madalyn Bick, Mackensie Bick, Luke Zielinski, Miles Zielinski, Brandon Grohowski, Owen Bick, Claire Bick, Maren Bick and Drake Bick.

Joe was preceded in death by parents, Jacob and Nellie (Hassen) Bick; previous wives, Rita Bick and Elsie Bick; daughter, Louise Bick; sisters, Virginia Gottschalk, Sister Mary Vernon and Anna Goetz.

A devoted father, Joe was deeply involved in the lives of his children. When they were young, he took them camping, fishing, ice skating, backpacking and swimming. He built a baseball field in the back yard that all the neighborhood kids enjoyed. He coached their Little League teams and helped with Scouts. In his retirement years he enjoyed golf, tennis, and bird watching.

There will be a celebration of Joe's life at a future date.
