Gerald Lammers Obituary

LAMMERS Dr. Gerald P. Dr. Gerald P. Lammers, 87 years, of Palm Springs, CA, formerly of Ida, passed Friday the 25th of January, of respiratory failure, at Palm Springs Desert Hospital. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. He will lie in state at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ida, Friday from 10 a.m. until the Memorial Service at 11 a.m. Fr. John LaCasse and Fr. Aaron Depeyster will officiate. Entombment will be in Toledo Memorial Park, Sylvania, OH, with Graveside services under the auspices of Lambertville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9656. Dr. Lammers was born August 21, 1920, in Leipsic, OH, to Joseph and Anna (Kaufman) Lammers. He earned his medical degree from St. Louis University and served his internship at St. Vincent's Hospital, Toledo, OH. He served in the US Army Medical Corp during World War II, and was released after his tour with the rank of Captain. Dr. Lammers started a family practice in Ida, in 1948 and practiced there until he was 84 years old, after which time he retired and moved to California in March, 2004, due to health reasons. The doctor was well known for his 6:00 a.m. office hours, daily office calls, nursing home visits, seven day work-weeks, and a simple love of his profession. He was a member of the American Medical Association and the Lucas County Medical Society. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Barbara Jean; daughters, Pam Stasunas, of Monroe, Michelle (Larry) Crogg, of Mission Viejo, CA; sons, Terry (Pamela), of Santa Barbara, CA, Larry, of Ida, Mark of San Farnsico, Mike (Debbie), of Milan, MI; and a brother Mark and family, of Leipsic, OH; sixteen grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, a son, two brothers and two sisters. The doctor also built a most enchanting rambling home in Ida, named Eagleair. It is a fantasy world where dreams and reality mingle and countless young people and their sense of mirth and wonder were allowed to run loose. Three generations of students including some forty exchange students were allowed to run loose and explore. There was boxing, basketball, ping pong, dancing, and pool under one roof. The house recently burned and has been completely restored. Memorial contributions for Dr. Lammers may be made to the Dr. Gerald P. Lammers Memorial Scholarship Fund at the funeral home, LaSalle Bank, or Monroe Bank and Trust. On line condolences may be sent to www.capaulfuneralhome.com

My condolences go out to the Lammers family. Dr. Lammers and our family go back many years. He had saved my fathers life on a couple of occasions and our family was very grateful. He was truly a wonderful Doctor and will be missed greatly.
