Gladys Jones Obituary

Gladys "Sue" Jones

1/21/1943 - 5/13/2023

Sue Jones, 80, of Toledo, OH passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Aspen Grove in Lambertville, MI. She was born on January 21, 1943 in Washington, D.C. to Hunter and Azile Taylor. As a child, her family moved to Detroit, and she later graduated from Libbey High School in 1962.

Sue attended the University of Toledo, receiving her Early Childhood Education Degree. In 1979 Sue went on to receive her master's degree along with 30 hours. She was a UT Rockette for one year, a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and was involved as an alumnus for 50 years. She continued to enjoy UT football and basketball in her later years. She was a dedicated teacher for Sylvania Schools for 35 years and received the honor of Sylvania Educator of the year in 1996. In addition, Sue also received the special honor of being named in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" an honor only 5% of teachers can receive each year.

Sue will be remembered for her skills in the kitchen, in both cooking and baking. Her artistic talent was enjoyed by many with her beautiful handmade scarves, embroidery and hand hooked rugs she gave to church and friends. Sue enjoyed boating, golfing, gardening and reading, but the greatest joy in her life was spending time with her granddaughter, Lexi, whom she adored. She spent hours doing her yearly scrapbooks, commemorating the cherished memories and always saying it was a "Labor of Love". Many close friends referred to her as "Sweet Sue" because she was so kind, caring and would do anything to help if someone needed it. She touched so many lives and absolutely loved her career as a 1st grade teacher.

Sue is survived by her loving husband, Vic Jones; daughter, Kristen Reeve; granddaughter, Alexa Mori; stepdaughters, Debi (Michael) Knapp, Joni Jones, and Sheri (Michael) Castello; and several step-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, Eric Reeve; and sisters, Joanne Taylor and Mary Morrow.

Friends will be received on Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, Holland-Springfield Chapel, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland, OH 43528 (419-865-8879). Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. in Sylvania United Church of Christ, 7240 Erie St., Sylvania, OH 43560. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to church. Condolences can be shared at

Kristen, I met you at Aspen Grove where my Husband is. Your Mom was a lovely woman and always wanted to know where her daughter was. "Can I borrow your phone so I can call her." And when Victor was there with her he always took the time to feed her bites of her food and dessert. Glad I had the pleasure of meeting you and Bless you on your new journey of life without your Mom. And Judy, hope your dancing with joy in heaven because your are pain free and can now remember everything and everyone!
