Harriet SOCKUT Obituary

SOCKUT Harriet Harriet Sockut, age 92, passed away January 1, 2010 in Sunset Village after a short illness. She was born in Hartford, Connecticut to Minnie and Joseph Adler and was one of five children (Frank Adler, Bertha Kroopneck, Isadore Adler, and Irene Katz). She married Louis Sockut on August 13, 1939 and had two children, Malcolm (Nicki Berman) and Joanne (William Treuhaft). She worked in sales in G. Fox & Co in Hartford for 25 years. She was active in synagogue activities and Hadassah. Her real love was spending time with her grandchildren, Zachary (Leslie Falk), Hannah (Marc Blackstein), and Joshua Treuhaft, Rachel Sockut, and her great-grand-daughter, Eliza Treuhaft. Knitting for them was her passion. She and Louis retired to Boca Raton, Florida. Louis predeceased her in 1994. She moved to Toledo in 2002 and lived in Pelham Manor. She was a warm and friendly woman and she enjoyed making many new friends and quickly got involved in many of the activities provided by Jewish Senior Services of Toledo. She moved to Sunset House and later Sunset Village and she greatly appreciated all of the wonderful care that she received. The funeral will be on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Robert H. Wick/Wisniewski Funeral Home on Reynolds Rd. Friends may call Sunday afternoon at the home of William and Joanne Treuhaft from 3-6 p.m. Donations can be made to Jewish Family Service Treuhaft Children's fund "Hands to the Elderly" or Bnai Israel Synagogue.
