Henry Drake Obituary

DRAKE Dr. Henry P. Jr. Dr. Henry Patrick Drake, Jr., age 86, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2007, in his home. He graduated from Marion St. Mary High School in Marion, Ohio, attended Notre Dame University and DeSales College and attained a M.D. degree from St. Louis University and practiced Opthalmology over 50 years, retiring in 1994. A Veteran of World War II, his memberships included the Northwest Ohio Opthalmology Assoc., Toledo Academy of Medicine, AMA, K of C, DuBorg Society at St. Louis University. Henry also enjoyed golf, boating, and summers on Catawba Island. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Drake; children, Patrick (Evelyn) of Michigan, Mary Weir (William) of Florida, Ted (Karen) of California; step children, Kathleen Burnett Conley (Mike) of Michigan, Richard (Kathleen) Burnett of Delaware, Daniel (Ann) Burnett of California; 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grand-children. Preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Mae Blake and brother, Joseph. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at the J. Jeffrey Fretti Funeral Home, 5045 W. Sylvania Avenue (At Corey Rd.) 419-843-1117, where prayers will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. in Christ the King Catholic Church with Fr. Michael O. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening in the mortuary. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, St. Francis High School Burnett/Drake Scholarship or to the Alzheimers Assoc.

My memories of Dr. Drake span from early childhood until young adult
years... always gentle and kind, making even the more uncomfortable
experiences and procedures bearable. Healing came not just through his hands but through his soul. God rest him.

I was saddened at the death of Hank, he was a great gentleman.
He was a great neighbor on Darlington and the office.
My prayers are with all of you, and I am so sorry I could not make it to the funeral home.
