Herbert Vann Obituary
Herbert Jr.
Herbert Vann, Jr., 89, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Arbors of Sylvania. He was born in Jackson, TN on July 22, 1923, to Herbert and Julia (Burnett) Vann Sr. Herbert graduated from Douglas H.S. and came to Toledo in 1944. He worked for the federal government at the Rossford Ordnance Depot, Rock Island and Warren MI before retiring in 1975 after 30 years of service. Herbert was also a veteran of the U.S. Army and after retirement he returned to work at the Frank Troy Senior Citizens Center. He met and married Louise Spencer Hardiman in 1963. Herbert was a long time member of Third Baptist Church, where he faithfully served on the usher board.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Sr. and Julia, and his wife, Louise Vann. He is lovingly remembered by son, Charles Vann Sr.; daughter, Patricia Hardiman Turner; grandchildren, Nikole (Michael) Childress, Charles Vann Jr., Latricia Nicole (Marlon) Perry; four great-grandchildren; nephew, Michael Lawlor, and special family friend, Alice Cole. The family would like to thank Allied Home Healthcare, Arbors of Sylvania and Gary and Joan Parker for their care and compassion.
Herbert graciously donated his body to UTMC. A memorial service will be held at Third Baptist Church, 402 Pinewood Ave; on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. Donations in Herbert's memory can be made to the American Heart Association.
