James Collier Obituary

James Collier

8/29/1953 - 1/21/2026

With great sadness we announce James ("Jimmy," "JC") William Collier, passed away in his sleep on January 21, 2026. He was born in Lima, OH, to Orville and Ann Alice (Layden) Collier, August 29, 1953. The family moved to Grand Rapids, MI, in 1960, then to Toledo, OH, in 1963. Jimmy attended Central Catholic High School, playing varsity football and graduating in 1971. He attended University of Toledo, graduating with a Bachelor of Education degree December 12, 1975. After doing sales at Chase Bag Company, Jim began working in 1989 in the trucking industry. He spent 29 years in various positions, operations supervisor (Midwestern Distributors) to dispatcher (UPS). In 2018 he joined EverDry Toledo, where he worked in their show department, bringing his strong work ethics, punctuality, personality and smiles to all he met. He was always cheerful and a happy guy. Jim liked sports: he was a huge ND football "Fighting Irish" fan, the Detroit Lions and the Pistons were his favorites; he cared for animals, especially his dog, Clancy. Growing up he enjoyed Michigan summer trips, family holidays and parties with his cousins. He was a fun uncle to his nephews and nieces, with them recalling many stories. Jim was a loving brother, brother-in-law, to cousins, friends, especially Mary Pat King, Barry Skeldon and Amanda Alexander.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sisters, Karen (Martin) Bokesch and Cheryl (Tom) Wood, Columbus, OH; along with his nieces and nephews. Jim will be deeply missed but forever remembered. His kindness, strength, love and laughter will inspire all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring. Please consider if donating to the Toledo Humane Society, 827 Illinois Ave., Maumee, OH 43537.
