James King Obituary

James "Jim" Edward King

James "Jim" Edward King lost his almost 4-year battle with cancer on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. He was 73 years old.

Jim was born in Toledo, Ohio and started his career there working for Owens-Illinois in R&D, earning 14 patents for TV picture tube glass sealants. He moved on to sales, traveling worldwide marketing the glass he'd helped to develop. He retired after 35 years from an offshoot of O-I, Techneglas, as its third ranking officer, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

Upon retirement, Jim moved with his wife Cheryl to Bonita Springs, Florida where in 2007 he founded Knight Watch, a Home Watch and Home Maintenance company, which has grown to be one of the largest of its kind in the area.

Jim also volunteered for 25 years for the Komen Race for the Cure, in charge of traffic control and serving as D.J. for Komen events, which lead to requests for him to provide music for more events around the community.

Jim was an avid hiker, camper and kayaker, experiences he and Cheryl loved sharing with their children and grandchildren. The couple also spent much time traveling, enjoying perhaps their best times visiting friends in Europe from Jim's business years and international neighbors met in Florida.

If it needed fixed, Jim could fix it. If it needed organized, he could organize it. If it needed done, he would do it. If it needed music, he would play it. If it needed celebrated, he would plan the party. He was a true inspiration on how to live and give your life to the fullest…to his family, to his friends and to his community.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife Cheryl King (Gray); children, Joe (Julie) King, Jennifer (Tony) Strebig and Tiffany Nofziger; brothers Joe and Phil King; sisters Peggy Henry, Kathy Sweeny and Marsha Thorburn; grandchildren Cameron, Griffin, Tucker and Reagan King and Alexa and Aubrey Strebig; brother-in-law Jeff Gray and nieces Haley and Hannah Gray. He is predeceased by his son Jeff King; parents Edward and Lizzette King; and siblings Mary Ide and Alphonse King.

A memorial service is scheduled for July 28, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lodge at Oak Openings Metro Park, Toledo, OH. There will be a gathering for Florida friends at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 Health Park Circle, Ft. Myers, FL 33908.

When Cheryl and Jim arrived in Palm Colony we immediately struck up a wonderful friendship. Any problem we had if mentioned to Jim he was there to help us out. This was the way he was always helping people. Making their lives happy with his parties and music at the pool and wonderful costumes at our Halloween parties. We did so many things together in Florida and the U.K. so many happy memories. We will miss you so much Jimmy Boy.
Much love Cheryl to you and All the Family.

Cheryl,
So sorry...as you know I'll miss Jim especially in the Fall when our respective teams play. I loved the warmth of his commentary and his loyalty to O-H....I-O! I'll also miss his inclusion of a few snippets of the Buckeye fight song in his DJ presentations. What a great guy!

Always there to help. Andy & Donna
