Jim KOVACS Obituary

KOVACS Jim Jim Kovacs, age 71, of Oregon, passed away Monday, September 13, 2010, unexpectedly while vacationing with his wife overseas. He was born on April 24, 1939, to Michael and Sophia (Danko) in Toledo. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was an avid sports fan; particularly the Cleveland Browns and Indians and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Locally, Jim enjoyed watching the Mud Hens, Rockets and the Walleye. Hockey was perhaps his favorite sport. Jim re-surfaced the ice at the old Toledo Sports Arena in the days before the Zamboni. He played Hockey for the Toledo Barons, an adult traveling team. While in the Army he played on the team that won the Alaska State Championship. He also coached his sons in youth hockey for several years. Jim entered the real estate business in 1973, most recently with the Danberry Co. He specialized in residential properties in East Toledo and its suburbs. Jim never forgot the face or the name of his many clients. He was an active member and former officer of the Exchange Club of the Greater Maumee Bay Area. Jim was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and served for many years as an usher. Jim was always happy, telling stories and jokes. He loved to make people smile and was loved by everyone who knew him. Everybody knew that he was doing "about 90%, not bad for a guy my age!" Jim enjoyed watching T.V. sports, playing cards, casino blackjack, travelling and family get togethers. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and many many relatives and friends. Jim always left by saying, "I am glad you got to see me." We all look forward to seeing him again one day. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael and John Kovacs and sister, Virginia Shultz. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Jane (Lichtle) Kovacs; sons, Michael and Matthew Kovacs; brothers, Joe and Jerry (Terry) Kovacs; sister, Jeanette Berg; and many relatives and dear friends. The family will receive guests on Sunday, September 19, 2010, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and again Monday, September 20, 2010, from 3:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Hoeflinger-Bolander Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Ave., Oregon (419-691-6768) with Scripture Services Monday at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 509 Oswald St., Toledo, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorials in honor of Jim may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cardinal Stritch High School or a charity of the donor's choice. www.hoeflingerfuneralhome.com

Jeanette, Jerry & Family.

Mary Lou and I were so sorry to hear of Jimmy's passing, he was great
guy growing up and all of us looked up to him when he came home
on leave from the Army because he was the first to go from the old
neighborhood and will always treasure the times at Christmas when
all the boys would come over and have some Christmas Cheer and
the following year we would all go to your house. So please know at
this time of great sorrow that all of you are in our prayers and God be
with you at this time.
