Joanne M. THORPE

THORPE Joanne M. Joanne M. Thorpe, 75, of Toledo, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2009, in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 18, 1934, in Toledo, OH, to John and Josephine (Steinbart) Pojmanski, she was extremely close to her stepfather, Stephen Rutkowski, whom her mother married in 1936 after John passed away. Joanne was employed as a switchboard operator for Owens Corning for over 10 years, retiring in 2005. Before that, she also worked for L.O.F., Owens Illinois and Doehler-Jarvis. Joanne was a hard working and loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, devoted to her family. She was an excellent cook and baker, known for her delicious pot roasts and Polish coffeecakes. She also was talented at crocheting, and loved animals, especially her faithful canine companion "Molly". She was a longtime parishioner of Regina Coeli Catholic Church. Joanne's survivors include her loving husband of 53 years, William R. Thorpe; children, Sandra (Brook) Larrison of Wauchula, FL, Susan Thorpe of Toledo, Cheryl (Tom) Gerken of Toledo, Carol (Rich) Streit of Tecumseh, MI and Steve Thorpe of Toledo and grandchildren, Daniel Larrison, Sgt. Andrew (Amanda) Larrison and Anna Gerken. Her parents, stepfather and sister, Jacqueline, preceded her in death. Family and friends may visit on Sunday from 2-8 p.m. in the Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114-128 E. Alexis Rd., with recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m. Funeral Services will begin on Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in Regina Coeli Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
