John Dzienny Obituary

John Frederick Dzienny

July 22,1968 - September 22, 2023

John Frederick Dzienny, Retired Lieutenant Colonel of the U.S. Army, died in his home September 22, 2023, of natural causes in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was born July 22,1968 in Toledo, Ohio to Frederick and Mary Jane Dzienny (deceased).

He will be missed by his siblings, Patricia (Joel) Johnson, Cathy (Lee) Weygandt, Michael Dzienny, and Andrew (Nancy) Dzienny. John will be remembered for his fun-loving ways with his nieces and nephews, Jordan (Hailey) Johnson, Sarah (Patrick) Hogan and Lisa (Dustin) Sommer, Anthony (Ashlie) Weygandt and Julia Weygandt, Nicholas (Cesley) Dzienny and Alexa (fiancé Philippe Jomphe) Dzienny, Melissa (Tim) Moon and Kevin (fiancé Mackenzie Rich) Dzienny along with many great- nieces and nephews, Victoria, McKenna, Christian, Frederick, Genevieve, Theodore, Oliver and Wallace. He leaves behind loving aunts, cousins and friends.

He was Military through and through. He called them his family. We remember John as an artist, a gardener, a lover of cats, a gourmet cook and a multilingual connoisseur of music, culture and travel. He was quick-witted and was always seeking adventures.

John was a graduate of Toledo Central Catholic High School, where his leadership skills were recognized by many loyal friends, who loved his humor and quick thinking fun schemes ("Toledo Vice"). His Military career began with the University of Toledo in 1990, where he was a Second Lieutenant in ROTC. He staunchly served 22 years before his retirement.

John was a highly decorated officer and had many awards and honors. He was awarded a Bronze Star for actions in Iraq. He served in Africa, Korea, Haiti and other Middle Eastern countries.

We will forever keep his happier times in life close in our hearts as we say our goodbyes.

Full military rites and the Catholic Rite of Committal will be presented at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio November 9, 2023, at 11:00.
